Forty-five years of knowing someone brings thousands of memorable moments, but the one I will never forget was my very first speeding ticket. Stef and I were coming home from classes at ULV. I was driving my crappy '94 Toyota Corolla, and we were blasting Ice Cube's "Check Yo-Self" cassette tape. Unbeknownst to us, a motorcycle cop had been on our tail, trying to wave me over. I was speeding in a car that could barely reach 45mph floored. Anyway, we get pulled over and I'm frantically trying to find my license and registration. The cop comes up to Stef's side of the window asking for my identification. I fumble trying to hand it over and it falls into Stef's lap. As he is writing my ticket, Stef and I are just staring straight ahead trying not to move. Neither of us had ever had any interaction with law enforcement. The cop returns with my $150 lesson, and I start to drive off when I suddenly slam the brakes and tell Stef, the cop never gave me back my driver's license! So I make Stef get out and walk the shoulder of the 210 freeway flagging down the officer when I soon realize I had my license in my hand the whole time. The officer ushered Stef back to the car and chastised me again, this time for making my friend get out of the car. We laughed the entire ride home.
