Mrs. Stephanie Phillipa Charles (née Yustin), age 85, passed away peacefully on November 27, 2025, in Towson, Maryland.
Born on January 14, 1940, in Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio, Stephanie carried her Ohio roots with pride throughout her life. At the age of 18, she moved to Baltimore, Maryland, where she began a lifelong career in healthcare at the old St. Joseph Hospital on Caroline Street. It was there that she met her beloved husband, Christopher Charles, who had recently emigrated from Ireland. Their shared dedication to service and their new life in Baltimore laid the foundation for a marriage that spanned 53 years until Christopher's passing in 2016.
Stephanie was a devoted mother to Steven Charles and his wife Terry, and to Annemarie Filar and her husband Stephen. Her love extended deeply to her grandchildren—Justin, Megan, Kelsey, Christopher, and Patrick—and further blossomed with the arrival of her great-grandchildren: Evie, Anastasia, and Aidan. She also remained close with her sister Karen Darby and her family in Ohio, as well as cousins in Baltimore.
Throughout her life, Stephanie gave generously of herself to others. In her younger years, she volunteered actively within her community and at her children's schools. She instilled in Steven and Annemarie a deep appreciation for learning and discovery—encouraging them to travel widely and embrace both their Irish heritage and Ohioan lineage. Many fond memories were made during family trips back to Ohio to visit loved ones.
As a grandmother, Stephanie found immense joy in nurturing the curiosity of the next generation. Her home was a haven filled with books, toys, musical instruments—and above all—love. She delighted in taking her grandchildren on outings to museums and zoos and sharing with them the wonders of the world around them.
Stephanie was also known among neighbors for cultivating a stunning rose garden that brought beauty to all who passed by.
Her legacy is one of compassion, curiosity, family devotion, and quiet strength—a life well-lived and deeply cherished by those who knew her.
