One of my closest friends we bonded over many things including jazz in general and jazz pianists in particular. An usher at Deena's and my wedding we overlapped in residency and fellowship training at Penn (1969-72). We remember meeting Sukie when she came to Philadelphia. Steve even got me into investing in a few antique pens when he came up to Michigan for pen shows. Deena and I send our love to Sukie, Lisa, Danielle and Michelle. Steve will be missed.

Dear Lisa, Sukie, Danielle and Michelle. I am incredibly sad that this day has come. The kindness and laughter and curiosity and "solidness" that Dr. Berger radiated was so rare and admirable. Sleepovers at the Bergers were something I loved so much... especially the laughter and love, the magic and the bulgogi. Sending much love, respect, and prayers during this exceptionally difficult time.

Steven, you are forever my american adoption father, together with this wonderful family that your heart and soul has built. Your radiant smile, your eagerness to share culture, history, music, magic tricks, food (so much!), your admirable modesty despite the astonishing carrier you had, well to summarize your peculiar humanbeingness, is printed forever in the memory of this teenage shy girl from Paris who spent a summer in your home more than three decades ago and who is now 50 (my god !!). I feel lucky to have met you, and I thank you for who you are and will always remain in my memory. Love.

Steve quoted that it is hard to make predictions, especially about the future. It is easy to predict that we will all miss him.

Steve Berger was truly one-of-a-kind. As a kid, I was intimidated by him while hanging on to his every word and thinking he was hilarious. I was in awe of how intently he pursued his passions:photography, fountain pen collecting, house design, magic...no Saturdays on the golf course for him. No way. He paved his own lane to live in and owned it. Mrs. Berger, Lisa, Danielle, Michelle and family, I am so sorry for your loss. Sending my love.

This world has lost a gentle giant I hope his family finds peace in their memories He was a great mentor to me. He asked me to join him and his partners in his cardiology practice. I spent 20 years of my nursing practice with him He always greeted you with a smile or a hug, and always with respect.

I met Steve when we both started a fellowship in internal medicine at Mayo Clinic in Rochester MN in 1966. He was my best friend. What a beautiful person,
so smart and talented. I send my sincerest condolences
to Sukie and family. May he Rest In Peace.
