Stephen Cowen Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jun. 2, 2022.
Stephen Francis (Lane) Cowen, 77, passed away peacefully after a brief illness surrounded by family on Saturday, March 26, 2022. He was born on January 14, 1945 in Rockville Centre, NY, to the late Helen Caroline Miller and Carlos Dilworth Lane, and was raised by his mom and stepfather, Gerald "Jerry" Cowen. Steve graduated from Riviera Beach High School in 1963 and became a lifelong Gator in 1972 when he earned a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Florida. His career in the nuclear power industry spanned more than four decades at various firms up and down the east coast. He had a passion for putting deals together and was equally passionate about his family who knew, without a doubt, they always came first. Steve will be remembered for his commitment to family, genuine friendships, sense of humor, intelligence, devotion to Gator football "in all kinds of weather" and how he valued experiences over material things. He is survived by his best friend and loving wife, Sharon, daughter Kristen (Mark) Richards of Charlotte, NC, son Gregory (Kristen) Cowen of Tampa, FL, stepdaughter Paige (Chris) Blevins of Doylestown, PA, and stepson Cameron (Mary) Hortman of Newtown, PA. Steve was the proud grandfather to seven grandchildren who he loved deeply: Brady, Morgan and Clayton Richards, Piper and Sawyer Cowen and Adam and Peyton Blevins. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Jeanne Dianne Cowen, and brother Carlos Domer Lane. A Mass in celebration of his life will be held at 1:00p on Saturday, June 18, 2022, at Christ the King Catholic Church, 821 S. Dale Mabry Highway in Tampa, FL, reception to follow. Interment at sea will be private.
