Stephen James Ford

Stephen J. Ford, age 74, passed away peacefully on Friday, May 30, 2025.

Steve was born on January 1, 1951, in Des Moines, Iowa, to Ralph Ford and Pauline Robbins Ford. He was known for his love of God and others, his exceptional singing voice, and his skillful guitar playing. He spent his life teaching love and forgiveness as a chaplain, in prison ministry, and to everyone he met. He brought joy, patience, and quiet strength to everyone who knew him.

Steve graduated from Hoover High School in Des Moines in 1969. He earned a Master of Divinity from Bethel Seminary and served as a chaplain at Portland Residence, a role he cherished. His true calling, however, was connection. Whether helping with errands, driving friends to appointments, singing at church, or simply meeting for coffee, people felt safe around Steve. He listened without judgment and showed up when it mattered most. Thanks to Steve's example, his family has carried these traits with them throughout their own lives.

Steve is survived by his wife, Livija; their seven children: Paul (Nicole), David (Jodi), Christopher (Rachel), Rebekah, Matthew, Joy, and Daniel; his sister, Carol (Randy); and his grandchildren: Jackson, Hayden, Kendall, Owen, and Elinor. He was preceded in death by his parents, Ralph and Pauline Ford.

Friends, acquaintances, and strangers alike would say the Ford family is one of the warmest and most genuine groups of people they've ever known-a lasting reflection of Steve's character and love.

A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, June 7, 2025, at St. John's Lutheran Church in Stacy, MN. Guests may arrive at 3:00 p.m., with the service beginning at 4:00 p.m., followed by a short reception with light refreshments. A live stream will be available. All are welcome to attend and share stories, smiles, and the legacy he leaves behind.
