GROVE

STEPHEN GALLOWAY, age 57, passed away on Wednesday, July 20, 2016 at his home in Lafayette, CA from pancreatic cancer. Steve was born in Philadelphia, PA. He graduated in 1981 from Bucknell Univer-sity, with a B.A. in Economics. He served as President of Delta Upsilon Fraternity. Steve joined IBM as a sales representative in 1981 and went on to a rewarding 33 year career with the company, serving in a variety of sales, operations, and general management executive roles. Steve spent most of his career in Pennsylvania, New York and New Jersey and moved to California in 1997 to lead the Western IBM 11-State Territory. He then held various executive roles in California over 17 years and retired from the company in April, 2014. Steve had a zest for life and enjoyed traveling the world with his family. He loved following the sailing exploits of his children, beginning at Little Egg Harbor Yacht Club (Beach Haven, NJ), to Encinal Yacht Club (Alameda, CA), to College Sailing, and beyond. Steve volunteered for the Encinal Yacht Club Junior Sailing program for over 17 years. He mentored hundreds of youth sailors and had a large, positive impact on the Bay Area and Pacific Coast youth sailing programs. Everyone Steve touched was inspired by his leadership, enthusiasm, quick-witted sense of humor, and positive energy. Steve is survived by his wife, Barbara and his children, Megan, Lindsay and Michael. He is also survived by his mother, Joan and his brother, David, both residing in the Philadelphia area. The family will host a Celebration of Life Service and Reception for Steve from 3:00-6:00 P.M. on Friday, July 29, 2016 at the Encinal Yacht Club at 1251 Pacific Marina, Alameda. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested a contribution to the Encinal Sailing Foundation (Stephen Grove Fund) 1251 Pacific Marina, Alameda, CA 94549.

I had the privilege of knowing Steve at Bucknell and consider myself fortunate to have him as a Delta Upsilon fraternity brother and fellow Economics major. Steve was one of the friendliest, genuine people I have ever known. He touched many people and he will forever be in my thoughts. Godspeed Fugly.

I worked under Steve's direction at IBM for many years. On all the meetings and interactions that I had with Steve, he was always an example of dignity, cheerfulness and leadership. His untimely death is heart breaking. He will be missed. My deepest sympathies to Steve's family.

I worked for Steve during his tenure as the PeopleSoft Alliance executive. Steve was a great mentor and manager! He promoted teamwork and always ensured people felt important and everyone's ideas made a difference. Steve was a great leader and led by example... he was a great person and a valuable IBMer. On a personal note... My dad died - at the age of 59 - of pancreatic cancer; it is an experience I will never forget. I wish all of Steve's family peace during this sad and trying time.

Very sad to hear of Steve's passing. I first met Steve when the PeopleSoft alliance he was managing took over the Oracle Alliance back in the 2006 timeframe. Over the years Steve's positive spirit and attitude helped to make those stress filled days easier. He often talk about his family and I know they were central to his life. In life you get to spend only so many tokens which serve as yardsticks along life's journey and in Steve's case he spent them wisely. He embodied the best in life and was a true example to us all.

To the best manager, mentor and most of all, a FRIEND one could ever ask for in life, whose life was taken from this earth way to soon. Rest in peace Steve as you sail away to a better place. We will miss you dearly

Barbara, I was so saddened to hear of Steve's death. Even though it's been over 30 years since you and I were new IBM system Engineering managers in Philly, I still remember Steve's quick smile and sense of humor. My prayers are with you and your family.

Look at that smile. Steve was a man with brains, passion, wit and the ability to do it all with a smile. He blazed a trail in business as he did on the water. Thoughts and prayers with his family.
