Stephen Hood Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers from Mar. 29 to Mar. 30, 2018.
Stephen Boutwell Hood died peacefully on Wednesday, March 21, 2018. Steve was born on March 23, 1942, the son of Katherine and Harry Hood. His siblings include Jane, William and Nancy. He married Nancy Lippitt on March 18, 1972, and they had two children, Chris and Elizabeth. Highlights of his childhood included being in the Boy Scouts, where he rose to the rank of Eagle Scout and was the Troop Bugler. Summers were spent in New Hampshire at Camp Wyanoke where early on he was a camper and later a Counselor. During most of these years he was the camp bugler. Following college at Denison University in Ohio he went onto the University of Wisconsin where he earned his Doctorate in Speech Pathology. During his career he helped many hundreds of students to become Speech Therapists and many other people to speak more fluently. In addition to helping people talk more fluently he practiced skills at home by teaching his two beloved children to be effective communicators. He took great pride in following their accomplishments through High School, College and their successful careers. In 2003, he welcomed his wonderful daughter-in-law, Heather Graham, into his family and rejoiced at the birth of his two grandsons, Graham and Marshall. With God's help he was able to become an Eagle Scout. Without God how would he have passed the hurdles of a rigorous Doctoral Program and without the help of God How would he have succeeded in helping so many people become successful communicators With God's help he was able to become a loving Husband, a wonderful Father and Grandfather. With God's guidance he successfully helped his grandchildren master the idiosyncrasies of the American language. Steve will be missed. Celebration of Life service will be held on Tuesday, April 3, 2018 at 7:00pm at Cottage Hill Presbyterian Church. The family will receive friends from 6pm to the time of service. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Cottage Hill Presbyterian Church in Mobile, AL, and the National Stuttering Foundation. The caring staff of Darby Funeral Home is in charge of these arrangements.

Dr. Hood, it has been a year now, since you have passed: however, what you have done for me, has lasted a lifetime. You and your family, will always, have a special place in my heart. GOD Bless

Dr. Hood served on my doctorate committee at Bowling Green State University, where I earned my Ph.D.. His generous input and inspiring guidance helped me immeasurably to earn my degree. For that, I will always be grateful to him. Thank you Dr. Hood. May you rest in peace.

Dr Hood has been a part of my life, since I was a young adult, midlife, and now as a grandmother. I was one of those people, he taught to find, their voice and to speak. I will forever, be grateful, that he came into my life,so long ago. Dr. Hood will be missed by me and all of the others, that he helped.
