Hello,
We realize that we are very late to express our deepest condolences, but we wanted to let your family and friends know that we will be sending Care Packages to deployed troops this month and several of these will be dedicated to your loved one. Each package will carry the name, photo and hometown of Stephen J. White US Army Sergeant 1st Class.
We realize that this is a small tribute, but we do this with all respect and sincerity and we want you to know that it is made possible by thousands of like-minded individuals from across the American youth hockey community, their families and friends and others who support our mission.
We will not forget. May God Bless you and keep you safe and strong.
Sincerely,
Charlie Gili & Family

Hey Red. The bracelet I've worn with your name for the past 13 years broke today. So I'm online ordering a new one and came across this website again. Had to compose myself before I talked to you again. I'm just grateful I had the opportunity to get to know you and was fortunate enough to call you my friend. Thanks for all the love you gave to everyone you encountered and for all the laughs we shared. Rest easy, brother.

Missing you something serious these days. I always wonder how things would be if you didn't have to leave us. I know you would have found a way to make things better than the way they were left. Anyway, I've found it in my heart to let those things go because ultimately I just wish that we could have you back. I love you Daddy.

Hey dad i really don't know what to say other than I miss you. When I look in the mirror all I see is you in me. I miss everything how we used to throw the football around in the front yard and how we used to take about power rangers and even when you taught me how to ride a bike. Every year it gets hard I just had a birthday and I was looking to see if you were there. I waited for you to wake me up and sing to me. Sometimes when I'm on the field I can see you cheering me on dad I love and miss you love your son

Coffee Shop 80 -I wasn't there, but that image is one of the many memories I have of my friend and mentor, Stephen. When I think about Stephen, I have this continuous loop of of him serving up chow and passing along breakfast sandwiches to the launchers as they rolled out to the firing points.
That is exactly who he was: always taking care of others and their needs before his own.
Regardless of how obstinate I was, regardless of my shortcomings, Stephen always took care of me and always continued teaching. I am thankful everyday for having known you and for having been mentored by you. You and your family are in my prayers always.

SFC White, It has taken me a long time to write something like this because every time you come to my mind tears come to my eyes. From the very first day the I meet you, you made an impact on my life. You showed me the way of the Lord and always told me to keep the Lord close to my heart. I know that God has his right hand man next to him now. We all miss your smile, laughter, jokes, and stories that would grab us and keep our attention. SFC White you made such a difference in my life that when I lost you. I lost a family member. I remember the last time that I saw you was Christmas of 2004 and that’s when my wife got to meet you for the first time. Even then you made an impact on my wife’s life. My wife told me once we left, “He is such a good, loving man, a man of God. I can tell that he really cares about anyone and everyone that he comes in contact with” Your passing always weighs heavy on my heart and always will. Stephen J. White you will always be missed, never be forgotten, and I know that you are in a better place with the man that you loved the most our Lord and Savior. We will not forget one of Gods most precious Angels. SFC White I love you and I know that you are watching over everyone from heaven.

The Wind on The Downs
“I like to think of you as brown and tall,
As strong and living as you used to be,
In khaki tunic, Sam Brown belt and all,
And standing there and laughing down at me.
Because they tell me, dear, that you are dead,
Because I can no longer see your face,
You have not died, it is not true, instead
You seek adventure in some other place.
That you are round about me, I believe;
I hear you laughing as you used to do,
Yet loving all the things I think of you;
And knowing you are happy, should I grieve?
You follow and are watchful where I go.”
(Written by Marian Allen during World War l )

That you are round about me, I believe”

The Other Side
i'm over on the other side
where life and death softly divide.
left my skin and bones behind
now i'm over on the other side.
can you feel me there with you?
my breath is gone but i'm not through.
loved you then and i still do
from over on the other side.
i can fly. really fly.
below the earth ... all through the sky.
tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side.
it's good here on the other side.
the sweetest songs...the bluest skies.
thank you for the tears you cried
but it's good here on the other side.
i can fly. really fly. below the earth...all through the sky.
tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side
the world is smaller than a needle's eye.
where life and death softly divide.
when you leave your skin and bones behind
i'll be waiting on the other side.
i can fly. really fly. below the earth ... all through the sky.
go tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side.

I am now on my third tour in Iraq and still think about you every day. Every once and a while I think I hear your voice down the hall or think I hear that contagious laugh. I can only smile when people around me see me react. What I wouldn't do to be able to walk down the hall to share a cup of Joe with you. I am incredibly grateful for everything that you did for me and for everything that you did for all our Soldiers.
I remember what you told me during our training at the NTC when we were uploading the trains. We had been working to redeploy to Ft. Hood and the time had come to load the planes. I asked you to go ahead and redeploy, that we could take it from here. You said, "Sir, I'm not leaving until you do." What a window to your soul. I continued to demand more and you continued to produce.
I miss the stories we shared in Kuwait as we spent countless hours on the road getting our equipment moved from the port and staged for movement into combat. I remember the morning of 5 JAN like it was yesterday. After listing all the things I needed you to check that day, the last thing you said to me that morning was, "Sir, I got it."
Well Big Daddy, seems like the roles are reversed, so help me take it from here.
Big Daddy, help me take it from here.

Steve, I just wanted to let you know you are not forgotten. I just came back from Iraq in December, the day before Christmas Eve and I thought about you everyday I was over there and every time I went outside the wire. I would always think how you would do something to make my own decesions. We lost 31 brave Soldiers during our 14 month tour and there is no doubt I think of them often; as I do you. I also thought of you because I retired from the Army today and it was a topic we often shared ideas on. I know you and my other buddies were watching today. I miss you Brother!

Steve,
How can I say I miss you without crying. Well its been awhile now and your son and I miss you. You turned your life around and devoted yourself to doing God's work. Our son graduated high school in May and will start college this spring. He promises to make us proud. I told him we were already proud of him. I just wish you werent taken from him so soon. He misses you alot I can see it when we talk about you. He was sad when he graduated because you werent there. I told him you were there and he was smiling at you like he always did. When summer comes and Thanksgiving he gets kind of sad thinking that he and Greg would be leaving me and coming to spend the summer or holidays with you and Vicky. You really spoiled them and they always had the best time. I want to thank you for taking both of my sons because you understood that they always were together. You didnt have to take Greg but you insisted on it. He loved you too and misses you. For christmas this year I am making our son a scrap book of you so he can take you with him every where he goes. Just remember Stefan, Greg and I miss you.

July 31, 2007
If this person can stand in battle to ensure my freedom, then I will stand in grief with his/her family to honor him/her. For every fallen HERO there is a bright star that shines in the evening sky to remind us of the cherished gift we were given – even if for too short a time.
My heart breaks again as I sign yet another guest book of another courageous young soldier who gave their life so selflessly. I wish I never found myself in a position to have to sign another guest book for the rest of my life, but I promised LE RON A. WILSON (a dear friend KIA 7/6/07, 18yrs old) that neither he nor any like him would be forgotten and so I will continue until the day there is no longer the need.

Battle, it's been a year since you were taken from us so abruptly. Since that day, I have thought about you often, wishing like hell that you were still here. You were the best battle buddy I could've ever asked for. Actually, you just started taking care of me. I never had the chance to tell you how much I appreciated you and the things you did for me as I ventured on my first deployment. You made things very comfortable for me. Thanks battle, you are the best. I miss you man!!!

I would like to say as a fellow 92y, SFC White was my mentor, a father figure and a great leader. He tought me many things and helped me out with my life. He helped my turn my destructive life into something that I could somewhat be proud of with a little work. He helped me get out of an abusive marriage before I was killed by the man that I loved and had married at the age of 19. You see, I'm 20 and about to turn 21. SFC White was there and helped me celebrate my 20th birthday in Iraq. 2 days later much to my horror, my best friend, my much respected supervisor, my supply daddy as I always respectfully called him was gone. I couldn't believe that I'd never see him again until my job as a supply clerk kicked in and I saw the vehicle, the weapons that they had taken out on the convoys with them, and inventoried his room and packed his belongings to ship home to his relatives. When we went into his room his bible was open to psalms 23. SFC White was very religious, never drank alcohol, smoked cigarettes. I had never even heard the man curse. The closest thing I ever heard to cursing was the day in the basement before we deployed and he was yelling at CPT Petty over the phone about some decision that CPT Petty had made that at the time didn't make any sense to anyone, but that is usually how it works with the chain of command. We never understand their decisions til we see them in action. He was a major influence in my life and to this day still is. When I am trying to make a hard choice or am going through a hard time in my life I just remember the advice that he gave me what seems like so long ago. To trust in myself and to trust in God. Somehow it'll all come out right and if it doesn't to try again til I get it right. I love SFC White like he was blood related and still do. I carry his memory in my heart and will never let it go. I plan to go to church and light a candle and say prayer for his soul on the anniversay of his death. I also send my condolonces to his family. I apologize for my poor spelling.

I miss you so much and there is nothing on this earth that will ever change that. I've listened to the confessions of others that time heals all wounds, I still find it difficult to believe that God sent me an Angel and called you home so soon. Because of you I believe there is a loving God he has a plan, I have yet to understood his purpose so until the day I see you face to face I won't complain. Know this I appreciate all that you taught me. I will honor your memory by embracing all that I have been taught. I am still learning to give thanks at all times, thank you for your long suffering.

SFC White was great man. He taught a lot of people great things. And we all appreciate him for that. He looked out for me like a father figure and I appreciate him for that. He will truly be missed. Lost but never forgotten.

Mrs Vicky White and Mr Stanley White,
It's been 10 years since I have seen either of you. It was when Brother White and I came up to MD from Ft Lee, VA (BNCOC) for a weekend. I saw Brother White during the first OIF and he was still in good spirits. He always had that smile on his face. I wanted you both to know he will definitely be missed. God Bless.

SFC White will truly be missed by his comrades. He was a great NCO and an exceptional Supply Sergeant. His unique ways and ability to put a smile on ones face will never be forgotten. Rest in peace, battle buddy.

SFC White was a great man. I served with him at 3-16 from 2000-2002. He was a mentor, a friend and a great soldier. He is in my thoughts always. He will be missed.

Brother White,
Though it had been since our days in BNCOC '95 since I last heard from you it was totally shocking to me to learn of your passing. You will be truly missed. I will forever keep your spirit on my mind.

Steve is a honorable man who will live on in dear memories and fondest of dreams. Before I met Steve I can honestly say that I have only been impressed by one individual, and now that I have been blessed and honored by God's greatest gift's I am impressed yet again. Steve taught me how to endure, respect, and love no matter what the situation, for this I thank God for allowing him into my life. For me Steve will live forever. Each day as I look into the sky I believe that God wanted just wanted those blue eyes back up there in heaven.

I was deeeply saddened to hear a fellow Soldier and friend has fallen. SFC White was a great man and an even better Soldier. This event, although tragic, is an eye opener that anyone of us can be called at any time. SFC White is in Gods hands now and I pray for his wife and children. He will be missed!
