Stephen Alan Land

Stephen Alan Land, aged 89, passed away on August 2, 2024, in Alpharetta, Georgia. Born on June 4, 1935, in Cambridge, Massachusetts, he was a respected attorney and a cherished member of the community.

Stephen graduated from Reading High School before pursuing higher education at Bowdoin College and later, the University of Chicago Law School. His dedication to his studies reflected his lifelong commitment to learning and excellence.

Serving as a JAG officer for the US Air Force, Stephen dedicated a portion of his life to military service, which instilled in him a profound sense of duty and honor. His legal career was equally distinguished; he practiced privately and also served in the Assistant District Attorney's Office. He had a few high profile cases, one of them presented to the Supreme Court. He was a proud member of the Georgia Bar, the Atlanta Bar, and the Atlanta Lawyer's Club, where he contributed significantly to the legal community.

Beyond his professional life, Stephen was deeply passionate about classical music, history, and literature, often spending his leisure time immersed in these interests. Above all, his greatest joy was the time spent with his family, who remember him as a guiding light filled with wisdom and warmth.

Stephen is survived by his loving spouse of 58 years, Merle Land, residing in Alpharetta, Georgia; his daughter, Stephanie Garrison and granddaughter, Megan Garrison, both of Flowery Branch, Georgia; his son, Michael Land of Boca Raton, Florida; and his sister, Jane Zais of Boston, Massachusetts. He was preceded in death by his parents, Evelyn and Herbert Land.

Stephen's legacy of integrity, dedication, and love endures through his family and all who had the privilege to know him. His life was a testament to the virtues he valued, and his memory will be cherished in the hearts of his family and friends forever.
