Stephen McPhetres

Just learned of Stephen's passing. Stephen and I were friends and classmates from fourth through seventh grade, when our family moved out of Alaska in 1954. My brother Cary and I served as acolytes at Holy Trinity Church. Stephen was a very special person

Steve was the NICEST person who graduated from the Juneau-Douglas class of 1959. His memory will stay with us always. Dale and Jennifer Schmitz

It's hard to believe it's been four years since he passed. He was such a great person and will never be forgotten.

Oh my, was just thinking of Mr. & Mrs. McPhetres (SJHS) I worked with Jan in the kitchen (student) and got to go to their wedding. Jan so sorry for your loss. Blankets of hugs to you and yours.

Jan, Sam & Wendy, I just now heard about Steve. I am so, so sorry for your loss. He was such a sweet man. I remember him playing Santa Claus for Jan's class the years she was my children's teacher. I remember him singing in so many productions in Juneau. I know he left a lot of heavy hearts with his passing. I will be keeping your family in my prayers. I know Steve is singing with the Angels. It was my pleasure to have met Stephen in the early 1970's in Haines. A wonderful man with a wonderful family. God Bless.

We're deeply saddened but so fortunate that we were able to have befriended Steve and Jan. We cherish the memories we have as neighbors in Poulsbo, WA. and we thoroughly enjoyed our wine tours in eastern Washington, especially the infamous Blackwood Canyon adventure!

I have nothing but wonderful memories of Steve and his family. Steve's dad taught my confirmation class at Holy Trinity. My Grandad guest-preached for Him when he visited us. Many years ago, Steve, Jan, Wendy and I hiked Mt. Roberts together and they were oh, so kind when I needed to stop and rest.

I am so sorry to hear about Steve. My condolences to Jan and family. I enjoyed getting to know Steve and Jan when I worked part time at NorthStar Trekking with them. I enjoyed seeing them around Juneau through the years. I think two of my daughters and my son also worked with Steve and Jan at NorthStar Trekking.

Steve was not a close friend of mine in high school, but I remember him well and I am proud to say that I was one of his classmates. He was smart, inclusive and a real leader. My heartfelt thoughts are with his family and close friends. He will be truly missed. RIP Steve!

My sincere condolences to h wife and kids. He was my high school superintendent and it was always a pleasure to run into him in the years since high school. Alaska has lost a treasure.

Condolences to the entire McPhetres family from the Kenway/Jenne family. We grew up with Stephen at the Church of the Holy Trinity.

IMy condolences to all the McPhetres family and friends, and my love to our remaining members of the class of '59. Our freshman year in the old JHS, my only year in Juneau, Steve and I anchored the tenor section in the choir. My mother moved us to IN and EHS with four choirs, two full bands and one orchestra in a town of less than 30k pop.; so, music filled a major place in both our lives.

Steve and I were in scouts together and he made this Colorado mountain boy chechako a friend. His dad, Fr. Sam inspired me and Zach Gordon mentored me. I was ordained a priest on Dec 19, 1969, at the Episcopal Church of St. Gregory. We will all sing together again in Glory.

"Almighty God, we remember before you today your faithful servant Stephen, and we pray that, having opened to him the gates of larger life, you wilt receive him more and more into your joyful service, that he may win with you and all your servants everywhere the eternal victory, through Jesus Christ our Lord." We cherish the memories of our time with Steve and Jan, remembering and reminiscing our lives during and following our life in Alaska. Steve was a highly principled individual and addressed life's challenges with the consistency and certainty typical of the most honourable among us. His smile was infectious, especially when mixed with a sense of humour that brought focus to the important and relevant aspects of life. He was blessed in so many ways and the sharing of his gifts became a blessing to us as well. His legacy is grounded in his love shared by so many of his family and friends. It has been said every life has an impact on the world. Steve's was special. May God's blessing be with Jan and the family in this difficult time.

When I first met Steve - he was "Mr McPhetres" for he was my music teacher at Sheldon Jackson in the mid-sixties. He made music class a lot of fun! I remember getting to serve the faculty at dinners & Mr McPhetres singing at the gatherings. Through the years he always had a smile & a hi in passing or a comment whenever our paths would cross. He was a gentle man & will be greatly missed. Our condolences to Jan and their family. Steve made a difference in the lives of people who knew him.

Steve lived large and will be always in the hearts of his classmates from the Juneau high class of 1959. We will be with you in spirit on December 28 as you celebrate his life that made this world a better place.

Steve and I were part of Juneau's running community for many years. We had a fun and exciting competition. I always admired his calm demeanor and general good nature. I did not know him as a teacher or musician, but it always was a delight to meet him in town and have a pleasant chat. Seeing Jan and Steve at the same time was an even better get-together. Best wishes to Jan and the rest of Steve's family.

What a wonderful, storied life. Although I did not know Mr. McPhetres personally, but I can see the kind of man he was in his son, Sam, with whom I am friends. My condolences to you all.

Steve was a warm, thoughtful, kind, talented person who gave of himself in special ways to help others, and who loved his family totally. My heart aches for them now and for us all. The McPhetres family came to Juneau in 1948 when Steve was a small boy. What a heartwarming legacy they have left in our community. Bless you, Steve.
