NASH
STEPHEN E.
Died peacefully in his home in Conway, NH on July 19, 2003. He is remembered with great love and enormous respect by his family. Steve was born in Shore Hills, NJ on December 12, 1920, the son of Stephen Payn Nash and Ruth Winchester Nash. His early education was in private schools in New York and at St. Mark's School in Southboro, MA, Class of '38. Steve entered Yale University in 1938 and graduated with the Class of '42. While at Yale, he competed on the crew and was college golf champion. He earned his law degree at Fordham University School of Law, Class of '46, where he served as Editor-in-Chief of the Law Review. Steve was a respected attorney, an avid sportsman and a dedicated public servant. For most of his adult life, he lived in Sewickley, PA with Martha Anderson Nash, to whom he was married from 1946 until her death in 1995. His law practice was concentrated primarily in the field of estates and trusts. He was selected in 1980 for the inaugural edition of the "Best Lawyers in America", an honor which continued until his retirement from the firm which bore his name: Blaxter, O'Neill, Houston and Nash. Steve excelled at many sports, but his fondest sporting memories were of sailing on Long Island Sound and of playing golf with his many friends. Steve particularly valued the opportunities he had to serve his community, including: as a member of the Board of Directors of Sewickley Valley Hospital for over 20 years; as a Trustee of the Sewickley Academy; as a Member of the Vestry of St. Stephen's Church; and as a member of the Sewickley Heights Borough Council. In 1996 Steve retired to New Hampshire, where he was married to Catherine McLean Nash, with whom he joyfully spent the remaining years of his life gardening, reading, sailing, laughing, enjoying sunsets and living peacefully in the valley where his ashes will remain. Steve is survived by his widow Catherine, his sister Virginia Nash Holly, his children Stephen P. Nash, Oliver Anderson Nash, Timothy Nash Podnar and Jane Nash Kirst, and by 14 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. The family asks that any remembrances be directed to St. Stephen's Church, Sewickley, for the care of the Jane Bemis Hann Memorial Garden, wherein is situated a sculpture of St. Stephen, the first known Christian martyr. I was Timothy Nash: Steve's eldest daughter. I would love to hear from any of my Dad's old friends or acquaintances.

I was with him when he died. He was a good Dad.
