Stephen Riley Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Mar. 10, 2025.
Stephen E. Riley, fondly known as "Riles," passed away suddenly on February 23, 2025, in Stuart, Florida, at the age of 71. Born on October 22, 1953,in Chicago Illinois. Steve built lifelong friendships and brought joy to those around him.

Steve attended Glenbrook North High School in Northbrook, Illinois, where he was an avid wrestler, competing in the 119 and 126-pound weight classes. After graduating in 1971, he pursued his education at Arizona State University and later earned certification in IT. His career in IT consulting began at Phillips Petroleum in Bartlesville, Oklahoma, before he moved on to various roles at McDonald's Headquarters in Oak Brook, Illinois. He concluded his professional journey at DeVry University Corporate Headquarters in Oak Brook before embracing retirement-in his Linkedin profile proudly declaring himself "Chief Retirement Officer" with the location listed as "Wherever!"

In retirement, Steve found joy on the pickleball courts and at local health clubs in Oak Brook, Illinois, and Stuart, Florida. He cherished time on the golf course with his "Studs Rule" group, relishing the camaraderie and laughter they shared. His ability to bring people together and foster meaningful connections was a hallmark of his life.

Steve met Lorrie Davitt, his "partner in life," in 2017. They shared homes in Oak Brook and Stuart and created countless cherished memories together. He adored time spent with family and his beloved grandchildren, who affectionately called him Pop Pop.

Steve was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Luba Riley, and his brother, Peter Riley. He is survived by his partner, Lorrie; children Sam and Kylie, Charlie, Molly and Cam; grandchildren Zoey, Harrison, Charlotte and Alyce; and dear friends Richard and Matil Smith; Scott and Holly Ricker; Caria and Nino Lecakis, Alfonzo; along with many others who will deeply miss him.

A Celebration of Life will be held on March 28 from noon to 3:00 p.m. at Miles Grant Country Club, 5101 SE Miles Grant Rd., Stuart, Florida 34997. A future Celebration of Life in Illinois is also being planned.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Tunnel to Towers Foundation, a cause close to Steve's heart.

Last night, the moon shone so bringt I had to go on the balcony. As I looked from the balcony, I remembered how you would send me a picture of the moon where you were and I would return a picture. We were looking at the same moon but miles apart. This will be a memory for me, reminding me that wherever we are, we are looking at the same moon. Miss you Steve.

Remembering Steve and the loving relationship he had with my sister Lorrie.
Steve and Joe got a chance to golf together at Maddens and had a great time.
Thinking of you all that attend the celebration of life for Steve tomorrow.

Thanks Steve for being one of the most loyal friends that anyone could want. Thanks for teaching me to golf. Thanks for playing hooky with me to go golfing. Thanks for showing me the 'chop' bet. Thanks for being a cool guy when I needed it. I will miss you. JP

Riles was the nicest guy you would ever meet. He was a proud member of the PR&BC fishing club. He will always be remembered for introducing the "chop" into our poker games. We will miss him dearly. I´m sure he is playing golf right now up in heaven.

I too was a member of the "Studs" golf group here in Stuart, Florida. Over time there have been over 30 of our group and Steve was always an important part of our group. He could always be relied upon with a joke or a quip and, importantly, his $10 contribution. Steve helped keep our group a light and fun bunch of seasoned gentlemen. He was our friend and we will all miss him greatly.

I was one of the guys that played golf with Steve in Sturart and will always treasure the times we were together. He was planning his second trip to NC to visit me and play in my annual golf tournament in April. In addition to those "buds" from his home towns there is a large group of us from Carolina that will miss him as well. We will tee one up followed by turning one up for Steve!
