Stephen Thomas Roth

I was so sorry to hear of Steve's illness and passing. I was registrar at GV for 7 years, and my daughter attended middle school there as well. One of her favorite classes was Mr. Perry's math class, and Steve was always helpful and supportive of the students. He was patient, kind, and used humor to communicate with the kids. I know he will be missed by all who knew him.

Dear Mr. Roth,
The memories of you and with you just come flooding to my mind. I can remember my first day of sixth grade, terrified of being in middle school, and then walking into your class, A2, with Mr. Perry. After that first day, you two helped me realize middle school wasn't going to be too scary, and I was excited for the year. To this day I have never had a teacher like you, who's put up with and has had so much paitence to answer all my questions, I appreciate you for never giving up on me until I understood it! My love for math started in that class and I owe a lot of my succes in school to you and other staff at GV. You not only taught me about school, but about life. You always seemed to have a way to make things better when times were tough and when others just couldnt be as paitent. I will always remember you on the softball field too, our third base coach. I was guilty of the sunflower seed wars with you, but I never spit wets ones at you like you did at me! Mr. Roth I love you! And I hope you know that. Im sorry I never got to go back and visit, but I want you to know that you were one of the few people there at Golden Valley who touched my heart and changed my life forever. Im enternally grateful, and I thank you so much, for everything. I can still hear you singing to me and Amanda.. "Go to the end of line, the end of the line!" And then finally getting my "Y" for my softball. I remember all that hard work for my "Y". I promise to transfer that kind of work ethic into my life, I will work hard for that final ultimate success and satisfaction in my life! Im rounding second and watching you wave me in to run home for that homerun Mr. Roth! I love you and you will be terribly missed!

Dear Mr. and Mrs. Roth and family:

I wanted to express to you my deepest sorrow on the loss of your son and brother, Stephen. He shall always live in my heart and I will treasure his memory forever.

I met Steve 33 years ago during one of my first classes at Pacific High. It was probably our similiar senses of humor which initially brought us togther. However, once we learned that we lived within blocks of each other, we quickly became the best of friends...throughout high school and beyond. Steve was smart...school work came naturally to him. In Trigonometry, he blew me away.

Outside school, he really enjoyed having a good time. We enjoyed many years of great times skiing in Big Bear. Steve loved the mountains...fond memories of us hiking around Dogwood, jumping off cliffs at Deep Creek and exploring Waterman Canyon. Closer to home, there wasn't a fire road that we hadn't been on with his truck or mine. What fun times we had at Huntington Beach and Rosarito in Baja.

Oh, the stories I could tell...like I said, Steve was always up for a good time. And he had a blast!

Years later, at my wedding, Steve was one of my groomsman. He looked pretty sharp in that tux. He partied with my in-laws into the wee hours, long after the bride and groom had left.

As the years passed, we saw less and less of each other. However, when we did occasionally run into one another, we would chat and laugh just tike old times...never missing a beat.

Steve was a great guy...and I will surely miss my friend.

I was saddened to hear of Steve's illness and passing. I have great memories of him at church so many years ago. I can still see him running down the basketball court or around the bases during church games. My heart goes out to you.

For twenty-seven years you were my right hand man. In the classroom, on the field, at the scorers table - everything you did was perfect! Your sense of humor and patience with the Lady Knight softball players will be carried through our program for years to come! You will be sorely missed in life and at Golden Valley!
