HAVERHILL — Stephen M. Saffie, 54, of Haverhill died Wednesday, Aug. 27, 2008 at Merrimack Valley Hospital in Haverhill.
Born and educated in Methuen, he was employed with Market Basket and also Rockingham Park.
He was a member of St. Anthony's Maronite Church in Lawrence. He was an avid sports fan which included Methuen High School football, especially the Thanksgiving rivalry between Methuen and Dracut. He enjoyed the Boston Red Sox, New England Patriots, Boston Celtics and Bruins. He was especially fond of all his nieces and nephews.
He is survived by his mother Florence (Haynes) Saffie of Lawrence; brothers, Mitchell and his wife Lynne Saffie of Carrboro, N.C., Gary and his wife Debra Saffie of Dracut, Mark and his wife Milissa Saffie of Methuen, Jeffrey and his wife Tomoko Saffie of Rochester, N.H. and Gregory and his wife Kathryn Saffie of Sandown, N.H.; sisters, Donna Giannuzi and her husband Frank of Cape Coral, Fla. and Linda Ford and her husband Joseph of Houston, many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins. Stephen was the son of the late Abraham A. Saffie.
ARRANGEMENTS: In lieu of flowers memorials can be made to Multiple Sclerosis, 330 Brookline Ave., Boston, MA 02215-5400. Family and friends may call on Tuesday 4 to 8 p.m. at the Kenneth H. Pollard Funeral Home, Inc., 233 Lawrence St., Methuen. Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Wednesday at 10:30 a.m. at St. Anthony's Maronite Church, 145 Amesbury St., Lawrence. I've been looking for Steve for several years. I had no idea he had been ill. We were friends since 1968. I'm very sorry to have discovered his location this way.
