Dear Sharon, Samantha and Leigh,

I am truly sorry for the pain that you all must be feeling. Tonight I am going to hear a speaker, Rabbi Kushner, who wrote a book called "Why Bad Things Happen to Good People". I hardly think there is an answer to that question, but I will be listening very closely. Stephen will be missed greatly. He was truly a good person as the 3 of you are. Sharon thank you for being such a good mentor. I am sorry we don't run into each other at times but I hear very nice things about you and what you are doing. Life flies by too fast! Please take care and know that I have been thinking about you and the girls and pray that each day will lighten the pain some.
Fondly,
Risa

Sharon and Family,

My sincere condolences to your family. Steve was a good friend and felllow brother of mine in the Arnold Air Society (Duquesne University '72). I last saw Steve in September 2001 at a gathering of some of the Arnold Air crew. He became the unofficial social secretary of the alumni and did a great job of maintaining a distribution list of past members and keeping us up to date on everyone's accomplishments and activities. Most recently, he was trying to get us together for a Pirates game this summer. He was a great friend and will be sorely missed. He will remain in my prayers.

Sharon and family, When I needed to get a ring sized I went down to Stephen's store. He was so kind to me and the kids. In fact the kids didn't want to leave, because he kept giving them candy. We just wanted to let you know that our thoughts and prays are with you and your family. Linda, Dave, Ciera and Connor Swetof

Dear Sharon,

Steve and I are devastated to hear that Stephen passed away. This brief note cannot begin to say all that we would like to say, especially since we have known Stephen for most of our lives. There is no better way to mark the quality of the man than to say that you could have had any man, and you chose Stephen. He was a true mensch. He accepted my friendship with you without flinching, because he was secure in how loved he was, and apparently secure in quite a bit about himself. He was never threatened- he only opened his heart. He loved to talk and I loved talking to him. His sense of humor was dry, sarcastic, and a real treasure. Sharon, you know that we have spoken about how I can pick up the phone after months and our conversation would be as if we spoke yesterday. Talking with Stephen was always like that, too. I lost a part of my best friend yesterday, and I don't know what to say about that. I've been wandering in circles. Without sounding like a cliche, I think that G-d takes the best among us, so that they can help make more miracles for those that they love. I have no doubt that Stephen will be watching Samantha and Leigh, and will be influencing wonderful things for the future.

Sharon, you are loved more than I can ever describe. My home and heart is yours for whatever you need.

May G-d comfort you, Samantha, and Leigh and help you cope with light in the future.

Love,

Carol

Dear Sharon & Girls,

I am not sure if you are aware of the friendship that Steve and I developed over the past several years but he will truely be missed.

Almost every other week for the past three years he would stop by my office to complain, harass, advise and give me a hard time while I treated him.

He always had a miserable look on his face, when I asked him why he would say "my god damn back is stiff just fix it, Im not here because I like you, you're the only one that takes my insurance" after a year or so it got to the point that I called him Sunshine. "Why do you call me Sunshine" he would say. And week after week I told him because you brighten my day.

I hope he knew that he really did.
