Stephen SAYERS Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jun. 14, 2021.
Steve went to be with his Lord and Saviour, Wednesday June 9, 2021, after battling cancer for more than two years. He was a loving husband, dedicated father, great brother and friend to many. Steve was the 3rd child of 4, for Robert and Lorena Sayers (both are predeceased) and was born in Newmarket Ontario. He spent his growing up years in Oak Ridges Ontario.
He and his wife Karen (Benson) celebrated their 39th wedding anniversary, on May 29. His wife Karen was the "apple of his eye" and they loved spending time at their trailer with their Camp Mishewah family. He has one son Kyle, age 28. Steve and Kyle were two peas in a pod. Their passion for snowmobiling, boating and working together fixing and repairing their machines was an unbreakable bond. Steve and Karen loved to be involved in their local church. Steve's love of worship music made his role of sound tech at church a passion for him. A skill he also passed down to his son.
He will be missed greatly by siblings and their spouses, Lorie (Ron) Winter, John (Melanie) Cooper, Leslie Sayers, Ken (Carolyn) Benson and Kelly Benson (Brad Curzon). He loved to spend time with his nieces and nephews, Charity (Ben) Klapwyk, Chara Benson, Melanie Winter (Neal Baker), Blayne Winter (Jennifer Beer), Catherine, Elizabeth and Malcolm Cooper, Naomi, Justin, Heidi and Holly Faulkner. Steve was especially excited to dote on the next generation of family and pass on his love of hockey cards to great nephews Cameron and Colton Baker, Mason Redshaw, Maverick Winter and Noah Klapwyk. He loved the little princess in the bunch, his great niece Ana-Sofia Klapwyk and the most recent addition Luke Klapwyk too.
Steve was an avid lover of all things sports from the very beginning. He played competitively on many baseball teams. He also loved recreational sports like hockey, golf, bowling and fishing. He had a great group of dedicated friends he loved to spend time with. They got together for weekends at cottages to snowmobile, play golf and do some fishing too. You were loved - The OFC, The Rowdies and ER Golf Guys.
Steve worked most of his years in the transportation industry with his family and had his own business for many years too. He loved that he was able to work at his most recent employment with Rouge River Farms and Transportation. Thank you RRF and RRT you cared for him wonderfully. Prior to that he spent close to 10 years with AMJ Campbell group of companies.
Steve loved well, he was loved by many, he will be missed tremendously.
The family is thankful to Dr. Sam Babak and Markham Stouffville Hospital for their excellent care.
A service to celebrate his life will be scheduled in a few weeks.

Steve was a pleasure to spend time with. We loved talking to him. He was very warm and friendly, generous and helpful. We will SO miss him at Camp Mishewah.

I am so deeply saddened to learn of the passing of Steve. I became acquainted with him while playing on the ball fields in York Region over the past 30+ years. Initially he was on the opposing team and then later we played on the same team. He was equally friendly in both circumstances. In fact his friendship was so sincere that no matter how long it had been between meeting one another it was as if we had last seen each other a few days before. Steve took an interest in people and was eager to learn a little more about them, often looking for ways to support them or encourage them. He reflected Jesus well. I wish to express my sympathies to Karen and Kyle and the extended family and close friends who have lost a wonderful man.

Dale Barker.
Friend. (June 21, 2021).

My condolences to the family's great loss. Steve was a kind, thoughtful considerate soul. His cheerful attitude could put anyone around him at ease. I had only seen him a few times over the years since our baseball days for the Gormley church. Yet, it saddens me so profoundly. We've lost a super nice guy.

What a great man and a great friend. Always helpful and kind. Will miss our talks and joking. The world is sure losing someone that is irreplaceable. Enjoyed our years at AMJ and bringing me to Rouge River to join that family. Will think of you always as a my buddy. Henry and Wendy Bannister
