Back in the Depression, when I was 6, one of my grade one classmates came to my birthday party. After looking around our house and obviously finding it less ostentatious than his own, said, "I didn't know you were poor." I'm not poor!" I said. "I have two brothers." The two brothers increased to four, and I still consider myself the luckiest and richest of people. Steve brought home my first library books, taught me how to ride a bike and, later, how to dance. And so it went for the rest of my life, with Steve out ahead, guiding me. Steve was the kind of older brother that everyone should have, and I will always be grateful.

Steve lived a life of enthusiasms - for flying, sailing, skiing, engineering, family, and jazz. He leaves a legacy of positive attitude. Sorely missed by his brother Pat.

Steve ,like all the vets at UBC was a quiet student, soaking up the knowledge which served him well through his career.Years later , when our paths again crossed, by just being Steve,he had become a leader, teacher, advisor confidant and friend to all he touched. Always looking at the sunny side and the needs and feelings of those around him. We all miss our special friend. Daynard Welsh, 49r.

One of my best friends and flying buddies. His sense of humor is indelible. Everyone that has met him will carry his love for the rest of their lives.

I had the pleasure of knowing Steve mainly in the last few years because of our regular luncheon meetings of the
1949 grads. Steve always did a great job of organizing the meetings. I am thankful to be one of Steve's friends. I offer my condolences. Al Moul, class of Mech 49

Steve was a good friend for many years. Joan and I will miss his smile and silly humour.
