Stephen "Steve" Smith, 53, of Fairfax, VA, passed away on June 23, 2023, in Chicago, IL. He was born on October 10, 1960, in Fairfax, VA. Steve was a beloved husband to Sarah, a devoted father to Max and Jenny, and a loving son to Grace. He was preceded in death by his father, Harry, and his uncle, Mike.

Steve was known for his generosity, kindness, outgoing nature, and sense of humor. He had a heart of gold and would give you the shirt off his back without hesitation. Steve's warm personality touched the lives of many.

He attended Oscar Mayer Primary School and Lincoln Park High School before pursuing higher education at the University of Maryland.

Steve proudly served in the United States Marine Corps, where he developed a strong sense of duty and camaraderie.

After his military service, Steve embarked on a successful career as the CEO and Founder of Steve's Hardware Shop. His dedication and passion for the business earned him the respect and admiration of his colleagues and customers.

Steve enjoyed spending time with his family and had a deep love for outdoor activities. He was an avid fisherman, golfer, and cross-country skier. His hobbies brought him joy, and he cherished the moments he shared with his loved ones.

Steve worshipped at St. James Lutheran Church, finding solace and strength in his faith.

A Celebration of Life for Steve will be held at 2:30 PM at the Leavenworth Community Center. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the American Cancer Society, a cause that was close to Steve's heart.

Steve's memory will forever live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved him. He will be deeply missed and fondly remembered for his kind spirit, infectious laughter, and unwavering love for his family and friends.
