Stevalyn Henderson-Brevard Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers from Feb. 27 to Feb. 28, 2023.
Stevalyn Gloria Henderson-Brevard, age 78, of Cedar Park, Texas, died January 1, 2023, after two years in a full-time memory-care facility. After a long career as a CPA and Tax Accountant, naturally she timed this for maximum tax advantage.

Stevalyn was cremated in January 2023 and had asked there be no service.

Stevalyn was born during World War II on March 1, 1944, while her father was in the South Pacific as a US Navy SEABEE. He worked after the war until retirement driving big yellow machines building roads. The family moved as each interstate highway that was under construction finished additional miles. Stevalyn was in a dozen different elementary schools before they settled in Austin for high school through college.

A graduate of McCallum High School (1962), she earned a Bachelor of Business Administration in accounting at the University of Texas (1969) and worked for a "Big 8" accounting firm during the internship period until fully licensed. Then she had her own firm or worked as a consultant, including with some of the biggest developers in Houston.

Meeting Laurence Brevard at the end of 1981, long after having decided marriages were a bad idea, she married him anyway and that lasted over 40 years until her death.

She built up and sold two different Tax Practices over that time, keeping a starter culture each time for the next one. She also was a fitness buff, even joining the staff of a major fitness center and eventually having her own Yoga and Pilates studio in San Jose, California.

She and Laurence lived in Austin, Texas, until relocating to Portland, Oregon, in 2001 and San Jose, California, in 2004. They returned to Austin in 2014 but her health declined rapidly.

Stevalyn was an only child and both parents predeceased her - Steve C. Henderson in 1999 and Irene O. Henderson in 2012. Having no children, she is survived by her husband Laurence, two German Shepherds, an old cat, and two cousins Debbie and Marilyn Robertson in Austin, Texas.

Stevalyn was our accountant for over 20 years and called us "clients in training." She became a great friend. We spent many hours together, definitely not just working. Lots of yoga and workout tapes and lots of shopping. No way could we pass a garage sale. She was a big influence in my life and I am very thankful for all the things she taught me and all the laughs we shared. She was positive and upbeat at all times, very smart and very compassionate, and full of good advice.

I met Stevalyn in 1998-1999 she was the accountant for the company that I had just gone to work for. Over a period of about 20 years I got to know her and Laurence as friends. We had a lot of laughs over the years and I can still here her go Yaa Hoo when she solved an accounting problem.

My condolences on your loss. Every visit and class with Stevalyn was an excellent experience as Stevalyn herself found so much joy in the everyday.

I think of her often when practicing yoga and hear her voice say "Don´t wear your shoulders as earrings." every time the instructor says to lower your shoulders. She is missed.
