Steve Bankovich

Our amazing Papa, born October 19, 1937 passed away peacefully in his sleep after a period of illness, on the evening of February 27, 2023. Steve was born in Hungary and left his beloved country during the Hungarian revolution, and arrived in Canada in 1959. It was in Canada that he met his truly amazing wife Maria, who passed away in 2020. The two of them lovingly raised 2 daughters, Paula and Christina and later their husbands Colin Belanger and Rob Filomena. Papa was ever present in the lives of his grandchildren, Kelly and Stephen Belanger and Emma and Grace Filomena. He will be forever missed at all the family gatherings and parties that he so loved, but we are at peace knowing he is spending eternity with his beloved wife, Maria, and fishing the serene lakes of heaven. A memorial visitation will be held at Dixon Garland Funeral Home on Friday, May 5, 2023 from 9:15 a.m. - 11 a.m., immediately followed by a prayer service and celebration of his life, led by Deacon Michael Walsh, in the Dixon-Garland Chapel. His remains will be entombed at Elmwood Cemetery. For those who wish, in lieu of flowers, we ask that donations be made to the Palliative Care unit or Cancer Clinic at Markham-Stouffville Hospital.
