Steve Ghareeb Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Apr. 3, 2025.
Steven Daniel Ghareeb, born on October 31, 1959, in Grand Rapids, Michigan, passed away on January 23, 2025, in Cary, North Carolina.

Steve embraced life with remarkable energy and enthusiasm. He had a passion for living an active and healthy lifestyle. Whether through sports, outdoor activities, or technology, he was dedicated to finding ways to improve himself.

Steve traveled across the world with friends and family, creating cherished memories along the way. His presence was larger than life-an undeniable force of warmth and charisma. His infectious smile and booming laughter could light up any room. A true friend to all who knew him, he had a rare gift for making people feel valued and appreciated in every interaction. His kindness and generosity left a lasting impact on countless lives.

In 2020, Steve was diagnosed with Progressive Supranuclear Palsy (PSP), a rare brain disorder that affects movement, balance, vision, and speech. He faced this challenge with courage for five years and remained grateful to those who supported him during his final years.

Steve was deeply loved by many, and his memory will continue to bring comfort to those who had the privilege of knowing him.

A small family memorial will be held in his honor. In addition, Steve has so many loved ones far and wide that we would love for everyone to share memories and photos on this site.

For those who wish to pay tribute to Steve's memory, donations to a local animal shelter or hospice in his name would be greatly appreciated.

Hello to Steve's family:

I am sorry to hear of Steve's passing. I met Steve in Chicago - not sure where or when - it feels like a lifetime ago. Steve was a sweet, smart, interesting friend. I had a chance to speak to him after he moved to Cary and happy he was surrounded by love and support from his family. Sending blessings to all who loved him and who were touched by his kindness and laughter.

Wow what a bummer to lose Steve. Whoever wrote his obituary was 100% spot on about every detail that you wrote. You won't find a kinder, thoughtful and honest human being. Steve loved to laugh and he had the million dollar smile. He was my boss for a period of time and I loved working with him and for him. Steve may you rest in peace

I am so sorry for your loss. Truly a loss.

My partner in crime for so many decades.

We all have that one friend that remains so close despite separation of time and distance ... you can talk on the phone and pick up any conversation as if it were an hour ago when you last spoke even though it is months or longer. Any subject was familiar and never out-of-bounds. We had everything in common and even when we didn´t it still felt like it. That was our relationship. I am sure many can say the same.

Steve and I had been through so much fun, laughter and even tears together... it hurts to know that he is gone from our lives, and selfishly my life. While we all have memories, and I have plenty, they only carry me so far.

I will miss you Steve ... everyday ... my brother. Until we meet again...

Love John Fetten

Missing you Steve - friends from college forward - always a smile to make the day and once in a while tennis drubbing. Our visits whether he came to St louis or making a trip to catch up with him were always memorable. On our trips to Chicago, he loved to walk, so when going out to dinner we would ask how far of a walk - funny every restaurant was only a block or two away . . .

Heartbroken to learn this news, but somehow filled with love reading these memories. I worked with Steve back in 1996 @ Ameritech/AT&T - his brain, heart and soul left an indelible impression on me then, and the same shines through on this reflection of his LIFE. I´m happy to have known him, his legacy lives on.

Steve was my older brother. Here are some lessons I learned from him.
- There is always time for ice cream
- If you eat ice cream and then someone suggests eating ice cream, there is no need to mention your earlier treat
- Listen carefully and be fully engaged.
- Smile fully with your soul
- Enjoy lots of laughter too
- Learn something from ever person you meet
- Seek out and eat really good food.
- Stay in touch and be a good friend.
Steve, I love you and will miss you forever
