He was a couple years ahead of me at college. He had the hugest leg muscles I've ever seen. Never talked to him.

Talented and wise, cordial and generous, patriotic and humane; Steve embodied an old-fashioned label: He was a prince.

Steve and I had several discussions about Afghanistan and first the Soviet and then the US involvement. He gave me his copy of P. Hopkirk's, "The Great Game". It still is a constant on my recommended reading list. He did make important contributions to the greatness of the Laboratory.

My condolences to Steve's family. Steve was a friend and colleague for many years at Los Alamos. A brilliant thinker who added much to the Laboratory.

I remember training with Steve at the Encino Velodrome for the 1968 Olympic trials 4000 meter team pursuit.
The race against the Eastern team was exciting and very close.
I watched from the bleachers because I had sprained my ankle. The day before.
Basically it was a contest between our essentially 3 man team and the Eastern 4 man team. 16 laps. The East led from the beginning but each time Steve set the pace it was much closer. Near the end the East was down to 3 men.
Steve took the last lap closing the gap. Our team won by .003 of a second.
I miss you Steve

Steve was my cycling coach when I attended Pomona College in 1978. He was such a kind, supportive man and he made a life-long impression upon me. My condolences, truly a wonderful human being.
