Val Heemstra
March 25, 2021
I have a little hat that Steve and Julia helped me choose that I bought at his shop in Jackson. It is my favorite hat for cold weather, and for some reason, it keeps me warmer than any other hat I have ever worn. It is now at least 10 years old and still my favorite. It's as though it's imbued with Steve's warmth and energy. I'm one more who is still missing him.

Steve's beautiful smile is what I remember best about him -- he smiled often and with sincerity. He found a lot of simple things that made him happy, and he set up challenges for himself that also gave him tremendous gratification when he achieved them. His smile made others happy, too, because we wanted to smile back at him. I will miss his smile and his friendship. The world is less bright for the loss of that smile. With condolences, Val Heemstra (Julia's mom)
