Steven Burr Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Apr. 26, 2025.
Steven Albert "Steve" Burr, age 70, passed away on April 24, 2025, while residing in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Born on June 28, 1954, in San Mateo, California, Steve lived a life marked by curiosity, compassion, and quiet strength.

From an early age, Steve exhibited a deep interest in the world around him. His love for history and geography was more than academic-it was a lifelong pursuit of understanding people and places. This passion extended into his appreciation for the cosmos and the natural world. Whether he was hiking through nature or gazing at the stars, Steve found peace and inspiration in the vastness of creation.

Steve enlisted in the United States Army in August 1973. He served honorably until August 1976. His time in the military helped shape his open-minded worldview and deep respect for diverse cultures and perspectives. These values remained central to who he was throughout his life.

Steve's gentle spirit was matched by an inner fire-a steady determination that made him a rock for those fortunate enough to know him. He was consistent and reliable, always showing up with love and care for those he held dear. As a husband, father, grandfather, family-member, friend, and neighbor, Steve offered unwavering support and kindness.

A man of many interests and talents, Steve found joy in music-playing guitar and singing were among his favorite pastimes. He also had a passion for carpentry and teaching, often sharing his knowledge with others in thoughtful and engaging ways. His curiosity knew no bounds; he was always ready to learn something new or dive deeper into a subject that fascinated him.

One of Steve's greatest joys was riding his Harley motorcycle. The freedom of the open road called to him, offering both adventure and reflection. Being a "Harley guy" wasn't just about the bike-it was about embracing life with courage and authenticity.

Those who knew Steve remember him as loving deeply and being deeply loved in return. His presence brought comfort; his words carried wisdom; his actions reflected integrity.

Steve is survived by his wife of 37 years, Patricia Martinez Burr, his daughter Cecilia Catalina Flores, her husband, Jason Flores, and grandsons, Asher Joseph and Acacio Reign Flores; daughter Lauren Ashley Martinez Burr and her partner, Stephen Webb; siblings Cheryl, Janet, Gary, Dennis, Quentin, Ken, and Ron.

Steve will be dearly missed by all who had the pleasure to have known him.

Steve,
I wanted to wait until your sendoff to write this, but I decided to do it now. I remember best the times were as kids growing up. It was a wonderful time in that we were all together. I remember me, you and Kenny hanging out as teenagers. Music and jamming together was what we liked even though there was a lot more we did. Because of you I learned how to play the bass guitar, which was a big part of my life, so I thank you for that and I love you.

This is a set of photos from the Burr Family gathering in Durango in 2019. Uncle Steve was talking to Lilah - age 6 at the time. Not sure what was being said but he sure had her attention and she had his. What a fun, sweet, amazing person he was. We will miss him dearly.

Sending all of our love to u Aunt Pat, Cecilia and Lauren.

DO NOT STAND AT MY GRAVE AND WEEP
*___________________________ *

Do not stand at my grave and weep
I am not there; I do not sleep.
I am a thousand winds that blow,
I am the diamond glints on snow,
I am the sun on ripened grain,
I am the gentle autumn rain.
When you awaken in the morning´s hush
I am the swift uplifting rush
Of quiet birds in circled flight
I am the soft stars that shine at night.
Do not stand at my grave and cry,
I am not there; I did not die.
