Steven Crumpler Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Sep. 7, 2016.
Steven Ray Crumpler of Garfield passed away on September 4, 2016. He was born on September 30, 1958 in Mobile, Ala. to the late Billy Ray and Barbara Jean Crumpler.

Steve graduated from the University of Arkansas with a degree in Information Systems and played on the Razorback Football team. He was a passionate Razorback fan his entire life. Soon after graduating, Steve began working at Walmart and did so for more than 30 years. He truly loved working for Walmart. Steve was also passionate about building his castle in Castle Cove on Beaver Lake for his wife Petra Katharina Crumpler. He was eagerly awaiting the birth of his first grandchild with all his heart.

Steve is the love of Petra's life. He always told her in German: Ich liebe Dich immer (I will love you forever). And she will love him forever too. He had the best character and he was the most humble and loving man for Petra and his family.

Steve is survived by his wife Petra Katharina Crumpler of Garfield; daughter Heather Wilkerson and husband Drew (expecting Steve's first grandchild Sept 24th) of San Francisco, Cal. and Heather's mother Carol Meimerstorf; sons, Colt Crumpler of Texas, Cody Crumpler of Colorado; brothers Mark Anthony Crumpler and wife Alicia of Mobile, Ala., Michael Ray Crumpler and wife Kathey of Tumbling Shoals, Ark.; and sisters, Virginia Lynn Kelly of Rogers, and Cynthia Dianne Maupin of Heber Springs, Petra's mother Ingrid Herbertz and her sister Anja Herbertz of Hilden, Germany.

A visitation will be held from 6-8pm on Thursday, September 15, 2016, at Rollins Funeral Home in Rogers. A celebration of Steve's life will take place at 3pm on Friday at NWACC Shewmaker Center.

The family requests that memorials in lieu of flowers be made to United Way of Northwest Arkansas online at http://unitedwaynwa.org/give/ or by mail to 100 Parkwood St., Fayetteville, AR 72745. Please indicate that your donation is in memory of Steve Crumpler, whether online or via check.

Steve was my mentor. I am 15, and as a girl interested in an architecture or engineering career, my teacher helped me get in touch with someone in those fields, last year. We met once a month, several times and he helped me a lot. We made plans this late August to meet on September 13th. I wasn't sure why he didn't show and just found his obituary today. I would've tried to come to the service if I had known earlier. He was an amazing mentor, I'm very sorry to see him go.

I got the pleasure of working with Steve as a consultant for a critical project. I loved his drive, his no-nonsense approach, and his ability to help us get to the root of big problems. He was the Mr. Wolf of Walmart in my eyes. Will be dearly missed.

I grew up with Steve and shared some great times. We hadn't seen each other in some time but I feel if we did it would have been like time never passed. We worked at the dock together and that was a good time. God speed my friend and may he hold you in his hands.

Petra and Family,

I have had the honor of working with Steve much of my 20+ years at Walmart. He has been a friend and mentor. Although we crossed paths on multiple projects before he went to Germany it was then that I really started to get to know him. I don't' recall the number of times he called me at 2:00am needing help on one issue or another. The call would wake my wife and she would ask, is that Steve again? We were both ready for him to get back in the US! I remember the stories of him spending the night in the offices there and hiding from the labor authorities so he could meet an end date for a task. Steve taught us all the meaning of commitment. He would do whatever it took to deliver on his commitments, even if he had to stay wake 3 days straight to get it done, as he did for a project in Mexico just a few years ago. He was one tough guy, I don't know how he kept everything going, work, volunteering, home, etc. Steve also worked with my wife Bendi at United Way a couple of years ago. His generosity, personal sacrifice, and leadership inspired many, including me to do more for our communities, work, and family.

God bless you, the family and children of Steve. He is greatly missed by my wife and I.

Petra and Steve's family, I am so sorry for your loss and will always keep you in my prayers for healing. Since hearing the news last Sunday, my heart has been hurting deeply. Steve was humble, honest, engaging, and had a delightfully dry sense of humor! I will always cherish the fun times I had working with Steve on the Asia system integrations. You are and will always be greatly missed Steve! Oh Petra, I just want to hug you so hard right now. Love to you and your family.

I had the opportunity to work for Steve's project in 2009. I remember he was a good man, very fun and easy to work with, and very professional. I had a lot of respect for him. Thanks to Steve, I made many friends in Walmart during the 2 years. It's such a shock to me when I heard the sad news.

Steve, rest in peace. Sincere condolences to your family!

Had a chance to work with Steve in our international business, and have known him for a number of years. He was a champion for supporting some of our key fundraising initiatives, such as for Children's Miracle Netwrok Hospitals. He had a big heart, a generous smile, and a hearty laugh. Our Walmart family misses him already. Condolences to you, Petra, and your entire family. You are in our thoughts and prayers.

Steve was my friend, mentor, confidante, boss, and sponsor. He helped me spread my wings as I'm sure he did for others. He dedicated his life to making the world just a little bit better in so many sustainable ways. He adored his wife. He supported his children. He gave his all to his company. To say he will be missed is an understatement.

Steve was a awesome individual who live a life he loved. He was one of the first people I met 29 years ago when I came to work for Walmart. The division had a lot of fun times as he was team captain of several teams as we participated in team competitions during the early years. He was captain Kirk in our star trek skit one year for our Christmas video. Of course we won first place. He and Mark Bagwell were co-producers. Steve was truly a wonderful person and will truly be missed.
