Steve was one of my best friends in high school. He made me laugh. He made me cry. We had some good times. I was heartbroken when I found out of his death. I was hoping one of these days we could talk again at a high school reunion. I still love you, Stevo

This is such sad news. I just found out. Steve was my handyman for many years but became such a dear friend. I am heartbroken. Steve was such a thoughtful, kind and generous soul. My thoughts and prayers go out to his family and friends. The world has lost a great man.

I´m so very sorry for the loss of such a great man, father, and grandpa. I was blessed to meet Steve through his daughter Danielle during our friendship and IU days. Danielle took me to Kentucky a few times to stay for the weekend. Steve was so sweet and welcoming always. I enjoyed seeing Sam and Jessica on those trips too. Steve loved his children so much, his whole face lit up when Danielle walked in the door. He took us to Joe´s Crab Shack(which was an hilarious night) and Thunder of Louisville, such great memories!! I´ve been praying for you all Tracey (Lehman) Abate

I remember Steve building a huge snow fort in my grandmas front yard during the blizzard of 1978. It had a slide and shelves!
I remember driving around in his VW bug.
I remember him carrying me around on his shoulders. He was always so much fun!!
I remember Steve and the family playing games and then it would turn in to: "if I mixed this chip dip with this, would you drink it for $10 bucks"- he always did and then barfed- lol

First time I met Steve was the day after we moved to Ashbrooke in Pewee Valley. It was the day before Halloween, 1996, and there´s this little kid, barefoot in his undies running around in front of our new house. I´m thinking..who the hell lets their kid just run outside like this...well, enter Steve Franken (and `little´ Sam). It was the beginning of a lifetime friendship. Whether it was a New Year´s party or a Whiskey Bent show, Steve was all smiles and positivity. Oh the stories we could tell...

The best memory of Steven was all of us cousins at Gram and Pap's on Christmas Eve. We shared many magical Christmases together as well as family reunions and Thanksgivings. I will never forget!

At 15 years old in 1972 I saw this kid out my bedroom window in Kekionga Shores, and having just moved in, and not knowing anyone I jokingly said to my sister-in-law. I think I will marry him some day. Thinking at the time how cute he was. Never believing it would be the start of teen age romance that did lead to first love and marriage. Steve was so generous and giving. We had so many firsts and so many laughs and fun and heartbreak together. We had a beautiful child together and a forever bond in that. He will be missed. Denise
