Published by Legacy Remembers on Mar. 1, 2011.
Steven E. Fristoe passed away on Feb. 23, 2011.
Born on Feb. 10, 1949, to Irene and Olis Fristoe in Klamath Falls, Ore., Steven grew up here and graduated from Klamath Union High School in 1967. He joined the U.S. Army in July 1967 and served proudly from October 1968 to February 1970 in Company A, Aviation Battalion of the 1st Infantry Division in Vietnam.
His first marriage brought two beautiful daughters, Stephanie and Hiedi. He re-married in 2007 to his best friend of 16 years, Paule Wassam. Steven worked various jobs in the U.S. Army and was a recruiter in Redding, Calif., for a few years in the 1980s. During his time in the Guards, he worked various jobs and finished his working days with 15 years as a working foreman at Macco Metal Buildings in California.
He enjoyed motorcycles and made two trips to Canada on his BMW alongside his best bud, Peter Vanish. They also toured the Western United States. Steven was fascinated with flying and worked with and flew in helicopters during his service in Vietnam. He started taking flying lessons in his late 1950s. He loved music from the 1960s and old classic movies. He was also a fan of boats of all kinds and classic cars. He had a great collection of pelicans (GO KUHS!!). He also loved doing random acts of kindness.
Steven was predeceased by his parents and his sisters Kristen Edgar and Lynn Wirfs. He is survived by his wife of four years, Paula Fristoe; his daughters Stephanie Fristoe and Hiedi Fristoe; his grandchildren Kristen, Zane and Sean Fristoe and Brandon Hartley; his brother-in-law Michael Wirfs and wife Phyllis; his nephew Matt Wirfs; and several cousins.
He was a wonderful and dedicated husband and father. He had a great sense of humor and was always fun to be around. He will be missed by his friends and relatives, who all loved him dearly.
Steven has gone home, into God's embrace, but he will be in our hearts forever.
Services will be at the Northern California Veterans Cemetery in Igo, Calif., on March 30 at 11:30 a.m. Family and friends will be welcomed.

I will always remember the guy with the great laugh and smile. The caring and giving guy. That was you Steven E.
Until we see you again in Heaven I will think of you when I see a motorcycle pass by or a pelican on the beach.

Steve was a great person, friend, and neighbor to our family. He will be missed dearly. It is of great comfort to know that he is in heaven with the Lord. Our prayers are that the Lord comfort and support Paule at this time of mourning the loss of her best friend and husband. We pray also for Steve's family, that they will find comfort in knowing that their loved one is in heaven at peace.

I worked with Steven at Walmart in Anderson, and being from ALabama he used to call me "Forrest Gump"! I enjoyed talking with Steven and considered him a friend. I was in the Navy but spent time on an army base he said he served on years before which gave us more in common. I am sorry for the family's loss and will pray for you all. ~Scotty Kelley Red Bluff, CA

Paule, it must be of great comfort to you to have had the lasting friendship and love of Steven. I wish I could change the present circumstances, but as it most things in life I know you will understand its meaning with the passage of time.

My thoughts and prayers are for both of you as you travel forward on the path ahead of you. Steven will always be with, and part of you.

I was fortunate enough to know Steve through my Aunt Paule. Steve gave my husband and me one of our most beloved wedding gifts. A Vietnamese tile that he acquired during his tour to Vietnam. Steve’s generosity, sensitivity and thoughtfulness touched our hearts. I know that with that gift were many memories. It meant so much to me personally as I was an orphan in Vietnam. I feel honored to have known such a wonderful man.

I love my uncle Steven so much. He brought so much love into my auntie's life, and he always treated me as a friend would. I looked up to him for his service to our country, and I loved his sense of humor. He was sensitive and loving, a true humanitarian, and I will miss him very much. I take comfort that he is in paradise with the creator.

What great love Steve had for Paule...a love story to rival any romance novel. And what a man of passion for his God as he depended upon Him throughout the trial he and Paule faced in this last year! We will miss him, too.

My heart breaks for you Paule. Steve was a wonderful man and a great friend. I really enjoyed working with Steve all those years at Mac-Co and always felt safe and protected when he was around. My dad, John, and my uncles Don and Jim all loved Steve. He will be missed.
