Dr. Steven Goldstein

Dear Mrs. Goldstein & Aaron,



Our family wishes to express condolences to you on the recent death of your husband who, only within the last year, became a huge part of our lives. He and his team treated our daughter at UPMC June 2001 when she presented with a massive brain stem stroke. While her initial presentation looked very bleak, I am happy to say that your husband and the rest of his team worked so very hard during the initial stages and we feel their medical expertise and immediate attention to her condition allowed our daughter to (thank goodness) "come back" to us. She's had a difficult year behind her and she is doing VERY well but not yet totally "repaired." She still has a way to go. Your husband was our "pot of gold at the end of the rainbow" and on our last visit with him in March, he told us that he was leaving to take a new position at SUNY. While we were sad to hear that we would not be seeing him professionally anymore, we were very pleased for him with his new venture. He seemed so very excited. I can only imagine how this tragic event has devastated you and your son. He spoke of you and Aaron with such love and praise!! You are in our thoughts and prayers and please know that Dr. Goldstein made a huge impact on SO MANY lives that he touched. He will be terribly missed by all who knew him!!!! Our family is thinking of you during this very difficult time.

Dear Mrs. Goldstein,



I just found out about your husband's death. My deepest sympathies. Dr. Goldstein was my father's (Frank Nappi) doctor last April after he had a stroke and he was wonderful. My father really took to him and my family felt confident that our dad was in such good hands. We had heard he was the best neurologist in Pittsburgh. My father just had a follow-up appointment with him earlier in May, and was sorry to hear he would be leaving UPMC. Again, on behalf of my entire family, you have our deepest sympathies.

Our thoughts and prayers are with you. We will all miss "Mr. Steve" very much. We are blessed to have spent time with you both in our short time in Pittsburgh. Dear Mrs. Goldstein and Aaron: You are in my thoughts and prayers. I am so sorry for your loss. I will miss the visits to Steve's office and the posting of Aaron's latest works of art. My colleagues and I on the Stroke Outcome Team will also miss his keen intellect, as will his colleagues-in-waiting at SUNY - Downstate, who were so excited that Dr. Goldstein had chosen to join them as the founding Director of their Stroke Unit.
