Steven William Hagerty

Torrance - Steven W. Hagerty, 74, passed away peacefully on February 4, 2026 after a long illness.

Born on August 30, 1951, in Dubuque, Iowa, to Colette and Louis "Bud" Hagerty, Steven lived a life defined by curiosity, kindness and love.

A master craftsman and General Contractor for over 40 years, Steven could build or repair almost anything. While proud of his carpentry, his true passion was music-especially guitars. Playing, teaching, performing, rebuilding instruments, and listening to music brought him immense joy and connected him to others.

Steven had a deep faith that grounded his life. He and the love of his life, Diane, married in the Catholic Church on June 13, 1987, building a life rooted in love, devotion, and shared values.

Known for his immense kindness and generosity, Steven loved everyone he met and cherished his friendships. He also had many passions, including horses, motorcycles, tractors, and reading. Always curious, he very enthusiastically shared his ideas, discoveries and inspired those around him.

Steven is survived by his wife Diane; his cherished son DeAngelo; and his siblings David; Ronald (Debbie); Carrie Schmidt (Don); Kathy; Jeannie; Mary; Sue Staggs (Jim); John (Heide); and Michael (Angela), Sister-in-law Sharon, Brothers-in-law Dale Osborne (Stephanie) and Alan "Oz" Osborne (Rebecca), and his many nieces and nephews that he adored. He was preceded in death by his parents, Colette and Louis "Bud" Hagerty, and his brothers Jerry and Bill and his nephew Douglas Staggs.

A Catholic Mass and Celebration of Life will be held at the Pacific Unitarian Universalist Church in Rancho Palos Verdes, located at 5621 Montemalaga Dr Rancho Palos Verdes, CA 90275 on Saturday, April 18, 2026 at 10am with a luncheon to immediately follow.
