Always and forever in my heart.
Jonathon stephenson
September 9, 2024
My name is Jonathon, and have only fond memories of Steve. I have so many memories from my time spent training at the college, later the garage, and at the east coast karate studio. The thing I remember most was his smile. It always seem to come easy.
One of the life lessons I learned while training, was that people don't like confronting someone with their head held high. This experience has severed me well throughout my life.
I guess the one thing I wanted to let you know, is that even people you don't know were impacted in a very positive way by this man.
I'm sure you are already aware of these things. I have many more memories, like my sister being his first female student, and at the time the youngest he had taken. I'm sure that he's had many more. I always found it funny that he was the only person to ever call my sister Annie. Everyone else called her Anna. We never corrected him. I'm not really sure why. Both my brother and sister took lessons from Steve. My brother had the talent. Under Steve my brother was able to do some incredible things. My sister was fast consistently winning the reflex tests at the end of class.
He will be remembered fondly for the rest of my life. I regret that more were not able to get to know him. My heart hurts from time to time. There are not enough people in this world like him, but that is what made him so unique.

There are many people who enter this world and make it a better place for everyone they come in contact with. Steve Hindman was one of those people. He was able to teach so many not just Karate, but life lessons as well. I am a better person today because of him. My thoughts are always with Tiffany and the girls.

I am sorry to hear of the loss of Steve Hindman. He was truly caring and respectful to all that he met. I had the pleasure of being in the group of original Black Belts with East Coast Karate. Through the years Mr. Hindman and I lost touch with each other (but everytime I would see him out and about, he always remembered me even after 15+ years). He truly touched the hearts of everyone that knew him, and all the hearts he touched burned a everlasting bond into him. You are truly Missed Mr. Hindman.
God's Speed to the Hindman Family in this time of heartache.

Dear Hindman Family....
Our most sincere condolences go out to all of you.. I met Steve when he first started working part-time at UPS in Canton many years ago. Also, both of our children had the honor and pleasure of taking some of his classes at East Coast Karate.
Steve was one of the very nicest young men I have ever had the pleasure of meeting. Steve had a one of a kind charismatic personality that no one could ever forget. When Steve first started working at UPS in the evening....I will never forget looking down the building and seeing him practice different Karate kicks...etc.. This was before the beginning of East Coast Karate. Steve had just started teaching classes at Kent State Stark. He was certainly an entrepreneur and dedicated to his sport. There will never be a more inspirational person than Steve for all the young people that came in contact with him. Although I have never had the pleasure to meet his wife and children.... I heard through a mutual friend of ours (Todd Bentzel) that you all are such a beautiful family. This is tragic for you all but please know that Steve will always be with you spiritually and emotionally.
Rest in Peace Steve.... I will certainly miss your presence on this earth...as I know many will. ..

I would like to offer my deepest condolences on behalf of myself and my family. He was like a brother to me and Marc when we were growing up. He was good to us, our family loved him. He got my brother and I hooked on The Beatles. We have a lot of good memories like having his dog Ringo jump in the pond and making family pyramids for our Christmas photos. He was a wonderful man and will be greatly missed.

Our family was so surprised and saddened to learn of Steve's passing. We felt he was a great person in the martial arts community and a credit to all those who came into contact with him. Although my son Nick trained with another TKD master, Steve let us use his studio on many occassions to train for upcoming tournaments and would advise/counsel Nick on many occassions.Once he even watched at length tournament footage of Nick and provided him with written comentary on how to improve. At after- tournament dinners he was always complimentary, advising competitors (winners and losers)and never partaking of alcohol, feeling he had to always set a good example for his and other students. Steve's legacy will live on through the values he guided his students with. A poet once wrote "God gave us a memory to smell roses in winter". View all the many photos of Steve, enjoy all the good memories and "smell those roses". God bless Steve on his next journey and those loved ones he leaves behind. The martial arts community lost a great leader. He will be missed and remembered forever. Fred Marich
