Steven Hochberg Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Sep. 18, 2024.
Steven Paul Hochberg was born July 8, 1961 in Albany, NY and died September 14, 2024 after fighting cancer (with no complaints) for almost a decade. He was married to Melissa Hochberg, whom he met in BBYO in Utica, NY, when he was 15. They had 42 wonderful years which included living in Israel, traveling to 20 countries, lots of adventures and good food and raising a family in Fairfax.

Steve was a fun-loving, supportive husband to Melissa and father to Max, Eli & his wife Becca, and Noah. The boys all shared their dad's passion for music, vacations and cooking. Steve was a self-taught chef and loved feeding his family and friends. He remembered everyone's preferences and catered to them.

School nights included family dinners and discussions, jokes and laughs. Steve loved spending time with his family playing music and singing, doing crossword puzzles, watching Sci-Fi movies, time at Gull Pond and hiking in the Adirondacks. Steve was an avid hiker who loved the outdoors and summiting a peak, which always included an appreciation of the view and a nap at the top. Steve ran the Boilermaker in Utica, loved running, biking, swimming and stretching!

Steve was proud of his long career in supercomputing sales and loved the time with his colleagues. Steve had a dry sense of humor and he was making everyone laugh till the end. Steve leaves his family, cousins, extended family, friends and colleagues to cherish his memory and tell his jokes.

Donations to honor Steve may be made to: The Adirondack Foundation www.adirondackfoundation.org, The Sheba Medical Center www.shebaonline.org or a charity of your choice.

I did not know Steven directly but I know his wife, Melissa. He had to be a wonderful person to have such a kind, caring and patient wife. When people are surrounded with love, it shows in their spirit. Melissa I cannot imagine how painful this is for you and your family. I am glad that you two had the time you did together. Love is everlasting. I offer my sincerest condolences.

Steve was a special individual and it was a privilege for me to know and work with him on many projects. You may not find a smarter, respectful and more humble man. That is the Steve I knew. He was a happy man and must have been surrounded by love throughout life. He will be missed.

I worked with Steve over a 25+ year period. He was a gentle, honest human that cared about the people around him. Our industry had very few people like Steve.

Steve has been part of my family since he and Melissa met going on 50 years ago. He was a wonderful husband and father and friend and his passing leaves a giant hole in our hearts and our lives. I always knew I'd get a warm "Hi Jimmy!" when I saw him, usually followed by an amazing meal. We'll all miss him so.
