Steven Michael Jones, born Steven Michael Rose on October 11, 1960, was unexpectedly taken into eternal life on May 25, 2025, at Aspirus Wausau Hospital, surrounded by family and friends. He was 64.
Steve was born in
Watertown, WI, to Lloyd and Shirley Rose (Blasing). After his father passed when Steve was 11, his mother remarried, and Steve was adopted and loved as a son by Donald Jones of Altus, Oklahoma.
Steve started high school at Lakeside Lutheran High School in Lake Mills, WI and graduated from high school in Altus, Oklahoma in 1979. After marrying Robin, he welcomed his first child, Krystle, before returning to Watertown, where he then welcomed his second child, Levi. He worked hard to provide the best that he could for his family. After many years of marriage, Steve and Robin chose separate paths, though they continued to remain friends and stayed in touch.
Steve then met his second wife, Emily, in Watertown, and they were married on September 28, 2013, in
Eagle River, Wisconsin. He enjoyed exploring the waters and woods, and called the Northwoods "God's country." His circle of friends continued to grow. Steve would leave an unforgettable impression on the people he met, being affectionately known as "Uncle Steve" by many. He was always thankful to be able to live where he could revisit the memories created during his younger years, when he would come to the Northwoods and spend countless hours fishing for trophy musky and walleye with the people that mattered most to him.
Steve lived a life rooted in service and connection. While living in Vici, Oklahoma, he volunteered as a fireman and served as President of the local Lions Club. He was an avid hunter and fisherman and shared his love of the outdoors by teaching hunter safety. A loyal sports fan, Steve looked forward to football season, especially when the Packers or Badgers were playing. He also had a passion for racing, helping out in the pit for his brother's races. Steve's love of music also provided him with much enjoyment over the years. He met and maintained many very special friendships, with multiple bands, including the Whitehouse Players. Throughout his career, Steve was known for his leadership and dedication, spending many years as a supervisor at Rolex Corp. in Ixonia, Wisconsin. After Rolex closed, he held other supervisor positions for both US Chemical and Fisher-Barton, in Watertown.
Despite his struggles with managing chronic pain for many years, he was able to find peace in the knowledge of salvation through his Lord and Savior.
Steve is survived by his loving wife, Emily; his daughter, Krystle Harris; his son, Levi Jones; grandchildren, Kaitlyn and Jaden Harris, Gianna and Charlotte Jones; his brother, Scott (Kelly) Jones; his sister, Dana Jameson; his first wife, Robin Jones; his aunt, Judy (Richard) Bowman; uncles, Gary and Michael Jones in Oklahoma; nephews, Todd and Josh Jameson; niece, Jayden Jones; as well as extended family from many other states, and the rescue dog, who rescued him, Crawford.
Steve is preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Donald Jr.; as well as grandparents, and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.
Steve will forever be remembered for the smile that would light up the room, the jokes he shared, and the laughter that brought much happiness to the people around him, as well as his dedication to protecting the weak and vulnerable, being the friend who would listen, and one who tried to do the right thing, by "paying it forward" when given the opportunity.
A celebration of life will be held on Sunday, June 1, 2025, at Hafemeister Funeral Home in
