Steven Keith Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Sep. 24, 2023.
Doctor Steven Joseph Keith passed away on August 06, 2023, at Cedars Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles, California. Steve suffered unexpected complications from a chronic medical condition.

Steven was born to Jean McShane Keith and William Keith on July 15, 1960, in Suffern, NY. Steve attended Rockland County schools with his four siblings and graduated from Clarkstown North High School. As an adolescent, Steve became interested in riding and caring for horses. He spent much of his time riding at local stables, often times with his cousins. Steve's hard work and dedication led to his eventual participation in show jumping at many equestrian events over the course of his adult life.

Steven decided to relocate to California at age 21 where he graduated from Antioch University in 1993. He chose to pursue a career in mental health care that brought Steve back to NY. He enrolled at New York University, earning a Masters Degree in Social Work in 2000. Upon returning to California, Steve worked for many years as a licensed Social worker.

Continuing his education, Steven went on to earn his PhD in Psychoanalysis in 2019 at the Psychoanalytic Center of California. Because of the love Steve had for his profession he continued treating his patients until the time of his death. He was known to his colleagues and patients as a caring and compassionate practitioner.

In addition to his avid equestrian interests, Steven enjoyed traveling the world. Australia, Portugal, Germany, France, Mauritius, and Jordan were some of his most exciting destinations. Steve would also always make time to spend holidays and vacations with his family in NY.

Steve is predeceased by his parents Bill and Jean. He leaves behind his sister Barbara White (Robert), brother William Keith (Mary Pat), brother Robert Keith, and sister Ellen Keith. He has a close and loving family that includes his nieces and nephews, aunts and cousins.

Steven will be remembered for his care and dedication to each of his patients as well as his sense of humor, his radiant smile and his love of family.

Donations may be made in his name to Venture Together Nanuet NY, which supports an equestrian center, or a charity of your choice.

I met Steve in the mid 80´s when he was working as a horse trainer in CA. He not only was one of my trainers, I considered him a dear friend. I am so saddened on learning of his passing. We had fun in the 80´s. Steve I hope you have found many horses to ride in heaven. Until we meet again

Oh bud -
Too many memories to put in one place - so glad you came to CA after me all those years ago - and that I came back for that last visit - you were like a brother and a best friend - as kids, Albertus and CA - love you, rest easy and thanks for the feather - xoxo

Spending a week down at LBI, NJ. Steve in his Speedo. Barb, Meggie, Steve & myself enjoying the sun and surf. Hearing "Don't You Want Me Baby" by The Human League way too many times. The night we drove around and stopped 3 different times to get ice cream waffle cones.
