Steven Loomis

It´s been many years since I last saw Steve. He had a huge capacity to give and could make you smile and laugh.
I´m sad for his family and that he´s gone too soon. Rest in peace.

Steve and I would jam in the carport of a duplex where I lived with my mom and sister when we were in jr high and high school. We went to a bunch of concerts back then, ran the streets with our friends and had a lot laughs and good times .
I´m here today for his memorial

a memory I have of Steve, was him asking for my help up at the Litton ballfield to help prep it back in the 90s. showing me the storage sheds that were around the litton field. It was a unique experience no one had ever been in those Storage sheds except for Steve. It was a unique experience to see all the things that were there and how much knowledge he had of them. Steve was like a uncle to me in a lot of ways. I had known him from the very very young age of six all the way through until his passing. He will be greatly missed.

So Sad, Steve you will be missed, I just found out. Years ago my teammate, Chuck Tobey, died in a playoff game at Litton Field, I talked with Steve about doing something special and I suggested we put a scoreboard up in his honor as the field did not have one. Steve said whatever money we could raise the league would match it. So we threw a comedy benefit together, raised several thousand dollars and Steve matched it. Hence the scoreboard at Litton. The Number "17" on the scoreboard was Chuck Tobey's. Steve took care of it all, purchase etc. Years later the number 17 was fading bad, I called Steve if he could help, he immediately repainted it. Steve was nothing but a quality person. I am not sure what number Steve wore on the ball field, but his number should be up there too for all he did creating Litton field! Certain people need to be remembered and Steve and Chuck were two of those people. Also, maybe a plaque to commemorate Steve and Chuck so future players know the history of players that went before them and how this field of dreams came about..... Robert Blodgett

I grew up playing fast pitch in Nevada County, then transitioned into slow pitch and Steve was the most dedicated and passionate umpire I have ever met. All the teams treasured his presence. We all loved him and knew it was a tough job and respected him for that. He would always make me feel special on the field and off and took the time out to say hello and see how I was doing after retiring from the field. My family will greatly miss Steve's smile and humor. This community has lost a great human and he will be greatly missed. God bless you Tammy during this difficult time. We are praying for you.

Miss seeing you at Hills Flat

Steve was such a unique and passionate person. From calling a softball game, to preparing the fields for play, for his passion in serving the community in which he lived through supporting so many forms of recreation, Steve supported so many people on so many ways, as only he could. The void in Nevada County, the void in Hills Flat Lumber, and surely the void felt by family and so many friends can never be filled by any one person. Thank you for the fine example, Steve.

The first memory is when he woke me up in my crib with a knitted octopus dangling it across my face I guess that´s when the sibling rivalry started? & my last one was him telling me he loved me... I truly love & miss him

I admired Steve's enthusiasm for softball, the players, and the community. I appreciated his umpiring techniques and guidance which inspired me be a better umpire. He was always there to solve issues and give words of wisdom when it involved conflict and mostly bring a smile and joy to the game. Steve will always be in my heart.

I met Steve playing softball. I was a new transition from girls fast pitch softball to slow pitch, he was the umpire but gave me tips on how to slow down and hit the ball. Always was nice and I respected him him for his fairness.He was an icon at any of the fields and will be missed.
