Steven Martin Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers from Dec. 2 to Dec. 3, 2022.
Steven Glen Martin of Boulder, Colorado passed away at home on November 18, 2022 at the age of 68. He was born in San Antonio, Texas on June 26, 1954 to Glen A. Martin and Dorothy Fickes Martin, both of whom have predeceased him.

He attended San Antonio Academy, Texas Military Institute, Trinity University, and The University of Texas. Steve began his professional life in the oil and gas industry where he was no stranger to hard work. A career in sales took him to New Mexico and California, then ultimately to Colorado where he spent time in the lighting industry followed by his return to the oil and gas industry.

Always eager to learn, Steve was a man of many interests and talents. At the age of 17 he spent a month in Africa, an experience which profoundly affected him. He loved to travel and was fluent in Spanish. He was a competitive shooter in school, and later in life, a pilot of both helicopters and small aircraft, a scuba diver, an amateur radio operator, a photographer, and a darn good cook, barbequer and baker. The stack of books by his bedside was always tall and varied. There was not much that he could not fix, and if asked for help Steve was always willing to step up. As President of the Boulder Rifle Club for six years from 2014 -2020, Steve accomplished much and skillfully steered the club in a positive direction.

He is survived by his sister Dale A. Martin, brother Charles R. Martin, niece Darcy M. Payne and Brandon T. Payne, great-niece Dawn McCastor and his life partner of 32 years, Margie Wortzman, as well as Olive the Airedale Terrier.

There remained much in life that Steve wished to accomplish but in his own words, " the Great Maker must have other plans for me." His laughter and love of a good joke or story will be greatly missed by the many friends he made.

Those wishing to make a donation in Steve's memory may do so to Wounded Warrior Project, The Wild Animal Sanctuary of Keenesburg, Colorado or to Tru Community Care of Lafayette, Colorado.

I met Steve in 2009 through my association with the Boulder Rifle Club. I immediately felt a kinship and we soon developed a close friendship. I worked closely with him, as a Vice President, then Secretary on the BRC Board of Directors. I enjoyed his sardonic humor (I share a similar attitude) and admired and was inspired by his intensity as BRC President. We shared many interests. I value the time I had with Steve, and my life is better for knowing him.

Dear Margie, We are so very sorry that Steve has passed. He could be so funny at times. We had many laughs through the years. I remember talking in a restaurant about Medicare and testing us old people for memory loss. We thought we might get kicked out for being so rowdy. We also enjoyed your visit to Costa Rica especially the silly horn on the car. I can´t use a carving knife without thinking about Steve and his gift of sharpening our knives and that a dull knife is so dangerous. RIP. Steve

Dear Margie, So sorry for your loss. Steve was always a very interesting person. Very intelligent, and sometimes down right silly. I always enjoyed his company. The best part, a highlight of my life, was when Steve, Margie and Olive came to visit us, in March for Steves Bday. You all drove to Gardner for a get away. Always with GOOD food to consume and sweet treats and many smiles and joy. Steve would entertain us with his new electronic device. We would laugh and laugh. I could go on and on but I won't.
He meant allot to us. He will be missed. We love him dearly.
I have a hanging lamp that Steve hung and electrified, the last time you all were here. When I look at it, I always think of you Steve. Enjoy your New Wings.
