Steven Xavier Mooney

Sitting on the beach in Rehoboth Delaware today and Santana "Europa" is playing from my song list. Hard not smile and think of Steve. Gone but never forgotten.

Steve will be deeply missed! I will carry memories of Steve for the rest of my life. One of the greatest story tellers I have ever met.

I loved Mooney. He was one of the coolest guys I knew from the water dept. He gave me good advice, shared his wife´s recipes with me & just an awesome guy. I´m so very sorry. Condolences to his family.

He always told me such great stories of my dad, Bob Clinton. I never physically met him, but he shared memories of my dad with me on Facebook. I will miss the kind soul that he is and may he rest in eternal peace, with my dad. Sending many thoughts and prayers to the surviving family. May they heal with all the great memories they have of him.

I remember meeting Stevie on the T.T. Stuyvesant. Through a love of books we became instant friends. We sailed together again on the Oceanic Independence. Steve and I spent a lot of time mocking our fellow crewmembers and quoting Cheech & Chong. He was a great shipmate and I miss him.

Steve, Julie and family opened their hearts and home to me many years ago after a mutual friend Tim Fitzgerald dropped me on their doorstep in San Francisco. They loved me and nurtured me teaching me many things that would serve me well going forward. Steve had the kindest heart, always remembering where he came from and yes could tell a story including those infamous sea stories better than just about anyone I´ve ever known. It has been many years since we have seen one another but he and family remain in my heart forever. I´m happy to say that in the last several years we did reconnect and had some good conversations. My heart goes out to Susan, the Mooney clan and Julie. Susie "Brown" Masson-Strohmeyer
