I was stunned and saddened at the tragic news of Steve's passing. I was privileged to have worked with Steve in an undergraduate class at John Carroll. He was a thoughtful student and had a terrific sense of humor! The profession will miss his contribution.

Dear George, Marilyn and Randy,
May our thoughts and prayers provide some comfort in what must be an impossible time. Although we never had the pleasure of meeting Steven, it was evident by reading the guestbook the profound effect he had on so many lives. The guestbook sheds light on young man who inspired others and was a kind, caring soul. You are an amazing family to have nurtured such a fine young man. Only with the passing of time can that same amazing family begin to heal from this tragic loss. You will remain in our thoughts and prayers.
Fondly, Cass and Dennis Streicher

I will never forget the day I was walking across the Case campus to hear a familiar but fogotten cry of "JONESIE". I knew it was Steve and I was overjoyed that I would spend my last years at Case with Steve. He was a great friend who never let me forget who I was or how to smile. Thank you for giving me the years of friendship I shared with your son and brother. He will always be in my heart and never forgotten. My thoughts and prayers are with you in this time of heartache.

Dear Oswald Family,
I have been close friends with Steve since the summer before my sophmore year when we took Organic Chemistry together. He lived across the hall from my boyfriend, Eric, for two years in DEKE, and I saw him at least twice a day every day. He has even been to my family's house in Lakewood for dinner during finals where he met my parents who immediately took a liking to him. We were biology and chemistry study buddies, and good friends. I cannot imagine my Case experience without him, and I will miss him and think about him every day.
Steve was always available for a hug, or a shoulder to lean on. He was so smart, and dedicated to his friends. He was funny, joyful, and loving. I will miss him more than these simple words can describe.
I apologize for not being able to come to the services for Steve yesterday. I have recently started two jobs and was unable to leave as result. My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family. My deepest condolances. Please know I will keep him in my heart for the rest of my life. I will tell every one I meet about how awesomely awesome he was, and what an inspiration he will be to me forever.

Dear Mr. & Mrs. Oswald & Randy,
You may or may not know, but just at the beginning of the month I was back in Pittsburgh and had the opportunity to have dinner and go bowling with Steve, we all had an awesome night, and he was in such high spirits as always. Both Steve and Randy are good friends, and Steve will always be missed. I am greatful to have known Steve, and to have seen him at the beginning of June. My deepest condolences go out to you and your family in this sorrowful time.
With Love and Sympathy,
Justin

I had the pleasure of serving as Steve's academic advisor at Case these past few years. He was such a pleasure to work with, interested in everything and looking forward to student teaching next spring. He loved working with people, last summer he worked with us teaching biology to high school teachers and he did a great job. It is hard to imagine such a gentle soul has been lost. He would have been a great teacher and he will be missed.

Steve was a student in my BIOL 223 class (comparative vertebrate anatomy) at CWRU 2 years ago. It was the first time I had taught the class, so lots of stuff was in flux and not everything I laid out for the students to do actually worked. Steve was patient and fun in lab and kept everybody upbeat. He entertained us once by showing off all the scars on his abdomen from some major surgery he'd had a few years previously. We joked that he could now learn about all the pieces he was missing.
This fall he was signed up to take my human anatomy class (BIOL 346). I last saw him in the hallway outside the Biology teaching labs shortly before finals this May. We just chatted briefly and he told me he was looking forward to anatomy and another class with me.
Steve was a 5th-year Biology major and also in the teacher education program, so I presume he was looking at secondary school science teaching after graduation. He'd have been a great one.
We will all miss ya, Steve...

The loss of Steve Oswald is one that was both untimely and tragic. Although I was not a close friend of his, it still saddens me deeply to know that he has passed away. However, I'm sure he is smiling down on those that he loved. May he rest in peace.

Dear Marilyn, George and family,
I am deeply sorry for the loss of your wonderful son, Steven. I could tell he was very special, even in the short time I knew him. I can't understand why life as we know it has to end on earth for such a young man. There must be bigger and better things waiting for us and Steven was chosen now. Some day we will understand why. My heart goes out to you. Steven is at peace.

Dearest George and Marilyn,
Just last week, Wayne and I had the honor of congratulating Randy with his engagement to Crystal. The endearing jubilance was apparent as Randy elaborated upon celebrating Steven's graduation from Case Western Reserve next May and his youthful exhuberant eagerness for Steven to stand by his side as his Best Man.
Wayne and I were absolutely stunned as Justin with a tender and heavy-heart let us know.
We are deeply saddened for you. There is no greater loss. You are in our thoughts and our prayers that you find have strength and comfort through each other.
With much love,
