Steven Scott Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Feb. 18, 2025.
Steven Manley Scott of Columbus, Ohio passed away after a very brief battle of cancer on January 21, 2025 at 10:27 p.m. with his wife Joanne Scott by his side at their home in Bradenton, Florida.

Steven's death was preceded by his parents Bob and Dodie. His surviving siblings are Kathryn Scott (Grant), Tom Scott (Lori), and Robert Scott (Peggy). His surviving children are James Roberts Scott (Laura, grandchildren Elijah& Alayna), Kate Scott Nelson (Nick), and Jess Scott Bucher (Ryan).

Steve also inherited the Westbrock Family when he married Joanne in 2011. Born to Joanne, his stepson Joe Paul Christian (Alicia). Joanne's family includes 7 siblings (5 spouses),11 grandchildren (9 spouses), and 11 great grandchildren. Steve enjoyed getting to know and love each and every one.

Steve graduated from Upper Arlington High School where he wrestled and attended Ohio State University. He worked for his Father at Allied Minerals until they sold the company. Steve then attended Capital University and earned a law degree in Corporate Litigation, and worked with Porter Wright. He had a short stint with Mills James Productions, then returned to his passion of pastoral care through the Upper Arlington Lutheran Church at the Hilltop location for 8 years. His knowledge and his experience came from when he was at Young Life as a Leader with Dave Chilcoat, leading many high school teens to Christ through group activities and clubs at Watterson, Whetstone North High School and the East Side of Columbus in the 1970's.

While working at the Hilltop in Downtown Columbus, he went to a Young Life Reunion in 2011, and met his current wife Joanne, who was one of his original Young Life kids.

Of course this was much later in life, and after 35 years apart living different lives, they found one another and were married within 6 months.

Life sometimes leads us through hills and valleys, and during one of their mutual valleys, they came together and made a great team. They were best friends and shared the same thoughts and Faith. Steve had many friends in Florida and took up golf again and was doing great when he suddenly became ill.

If you knew Steve you knew every year he visited Canada and flew in on a plane, dropped in the lake to spend a week at a cabin with his friends. This year was no different and he was scheduled to go in May. He was hoping to still attend and said "I think I'm going to be the wild card". Unfortunately, he passed very quickly. His three best friends are going to continue with the trip and most assuredly, Steve will be with them.

His dear friend Pastor Jim Miller will conduct a service for Steve, followed by a fine Brandy and the best cigars money can buy. (requested by Joanne) He would not have wanted it any other way.

There will be no official service as it was sudden and family & friends are in multiple locations far & wide.

He will be missed by those who loved him. Nothing is more valuable in the end, than that time you spent with your family and friends.

To the Scott and Westbrock Families my thoughts and prayers are with you. I have so many memories of the fun times spent with Steve. Our families have so much in common and we shared so much laughter together. Steve touched our hearts and was a friend to everyone he met... just like Dodie and Fuzz! I'll miss you buddy. God bless & rest in peace.

I remember Steve and the twinkle in his eye. He always had a story to tell our group of Bob and Dodie´s friends. I watched him grow up into a loving and caring person.

Pastor Scott you will forever be in our hearts here on the hilltop. You changed so many lives here. Baptized my daughter. Married me to my first husband. And so many other memories. Rest in peace thy good and faithful servant.

Steve was a great addition to the Westbrock family. Everyone loved him and welcomed him to the crazy large family. The boys all enjoyed golfing with Steve. He was very generous to our family by helping financially when a need arose. We are all sad that he passed so quickly and some of us didn´t get to say a proper goodbye to him. We know he is at peace now in eternity and not suffering.
