Steven Paul Stavrou

HOUSTON, TEXAS - Steven Paul Stavrou, 68, died Tuesday, Sept. 5, 2017, in Houston, Texas. Steve was born October 20, 1949, in Williamsburg, Va. He grew up in Denbigh and graduated from Ferguson High School in 1967. Steve graduated from Virginia Commonwealth University and then attended Pittsburg State where he received a master's degree in Construction Management. In 1988, he married Betty, who is the love of his life. Steve worked for several national and international companies during his career. He has been with Bechtel for the last 31 years. Among his many assignments, he was Vice President of the Jabail Project, field engineer for the restoration of telecommunications in Iraq, and deputy field engineer for the coal fire plant in Wisconsin. Survivors include his beloved wife of 28 years, Betty; his mother, Charita Stavrou of Newport News; brother, Michael Stavrou of New South Wales, Australia; his sister, Dr. Irene Lohkamp and her husband, Lawrence, of Montana; niece, Thania Villatoro and her husband, Anton, and their children, Kalista, Zelena and Tessa, of California; nephew, Aaron Tate and his wife, Amy, and their sons, Jacob and Zander, of Texas; and niece, Dr. Jalane Valentini and her husband, Daniele and their children, Todd, Noelle and Michael of North Carolina. The Trisagion prayer service will be held Friday, Sept. 15, at 7 p.m. at Saints Constantine and Helen Greek Orthodox Church. Funeral services will be held at the church Saturday, at 11 a.m. with burial to follow in Peninsula Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Saints Constantine and Helen Greek Orthodox Church. Peninsula Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
