Wilson, Steven E. 83, of Niantic, formerly of Bloomfield, CT, died peacefully at home on October 1st, 2014. Steve was born in Chicago on December 23, 1930, to parents John Orlando Wilson and Lenore Keating Wilson. Steve attended Mount Carmel High School in Chicago, where he enjoyed playing football. Steve was a junior choir member at Holy Name Cathedral in Chicago. Steve attended University of Illinois where he appeared in two musicals and finished his BA at University of CT. Steve was the youngest salesman ever hired for Kimberly Clark and later became a division manager in Syracuse, NY, which then led the family to move to Connecticut. Steve also worked as a drug and alcohol counselor at Reid's treatment Center in Avon, CT. Steve is predeceased by his wife of nearly 60 years, Mary Shannon Wilson, who he met while in high school. Steve is predeceased by his siblings, John O. Wilson, Jr., Lucille Wilson and Marjorie Wilson Smith of Chicago; nephews, Kevin Shannon, Brian Smith; and niece, Catherine Smith Connolly of Chicago. Steve is survived by his four children, Mark S. Wilson, Steven K. Wilson, Valerie S. Wilson and Elizabeth S. Wilson; and 5 grandchildren, Carolyn Wilson, Brittany Wilson, Spencer Wilson, Patrick Wilson and Trent Wilson. Steve is also survived by his sister-in-law, Carol Shannon Myeroff; daughter-in-law, Diane Wilson; son-in-law, Seth Garlock; and dozens of nieces and nephews. Steve enjoyed singing in church choirs wherever he lived including Blessed Sacrament in Syracuse, NY, Christ the King and Sacred Heart in Bloomfield, Ascension Church in Ft. Myers Beach, FL and most recently St. Agnes Church in Niantic. Steve was a lifetime member of the Bloomfield Fish and Game Club, and Wintonbury Historical Society, member of the East Lyme Historical Society, member of the Knights of Columbus in Chicago, Bloomfield and Niantic, supporter of Bloomfield Little League and Babe Ruth Baseball, founding member of the Bloomfield Jaycees, and a member of the Republican Town Committee of Bloomfield. Steve enjoyed watching UCONN sports, the Boston Red Sox, telling jokes, supporting people in their recovery from drugs and alcohol, spending time in Ft. Myers Beach and playing golf. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Steve's name can be made to St. Agnes Church, 22 Haigh Ave., Niantic, CT, 06357, Center for Hospice Care-Southeast CT, 227 Dunham St., Norwich, CT, 06360, or Southeastern Council on Alcoholism and Drug Dependence, c/o Controller, 37 Camp Mooween Rd. Lebanon, CT 06249. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Agnes Church, 22 Haigh Ave, Niantic, on Friday, October 10th at 11:00 a.m. Interment will be private. There are no calling hours. The Thomas L. Neilan & Sons Funeral Home, 48 Grand Street, Niantic, CT., is assisting the family with the arrangements. Our deepest sympathy to the Wilson family. As a summer neighbor and year round friend, I can say that both Mary and Steve were a real genuine couple and gave us inspiration and wisdom. We will truly miss the friendship and joy they generated. Rest in peace.
