OBITUARY STOCKWELL DAY SR. Passed away in Ladysmith, B.C., February 5, 2005. Born in Montreal, August 7, 1925. Educated at Selwyn House, Montreal, Bishop's College School and Bishop's University College School, Lennoxville, Quebec. Wartime service as a sub lieutenant, R.C.N.V.R. in North Atlantic. Twenty years with Zellers retiring as vice president, store management. Moved to Metchosin on Vancouver Island where he enjoyed success in real estate. Taught business at Malaspina College and spent eight seasons deep sea salmon fishing and served as vice president of Pacific Troller's Assn. In 1972, ran as the Social Credit candidate against Tommy Douglas in Nanaimo with predictable results. Moved to Hinton, Alberta, in 1977 where with his family and late brother Brigham bought and operated the Overlander Lodge converting the property into a small community with Alberta's first bare land condominium project. Then moved to Grand Prairie. In the fall of 2002 moved to Ladysmith, BC, on Vancouver Island. Survived by his adored wife of fifty-six years, Gwendolyn (Gilbert) and daughters Deborah (Lamphier), Abigail (Peters) and Rebecca (Reynolds) and sons Stockwell, Nicholas and Matthew, eighteen grand-children and ten great grand-children. Funeral service will be held on Tuesday, February 8 at 1 p.m. at St. John's Anglican-Catholic Church, Victoria, BC, 980 Fairmouth Rd. Burial service to follow.
