Sue Meyer Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Oct. 19, 2023.
Sue Meyer passed away on Sunday, September 17, 2023, comforted by her daughter and son. She was 84.

Sue was born in Dayton, Ohio on April 27, 1939, to parents Deloris (Dee) and Athol (A) Hopping and moved to Boise, Idaho with them and her sister Bette when she was nine. She graduated from Boise High School and Boise Junior College, where she met her husband Robert (Bob) Meyer. While living in Boise, the couple had two children, and Sue was a stay-at-home mom until each one turned five. She then worked part-time at Peasley Transfer and Storage until 1986 when she moved with Bob to Portland, Oregon where she worked full-time at Shindaiwa until she retired. In 2004 they moved to Sequim, Washington. Sue loved to stay busy, so she later worked part-time at Olympic Community Action Programs and then the local Hallmark store, and volunteered at Greywolf Elementary School to help kids learn to read.

Sue was active in her church and enjoyed the social gatherings and benefits. She also enjoyed cooking, sewing/crafts, reading, and visiting with her best friend Gloria, Bette, and neighbors.

Sue's children remember how she always made sure everyone felt welcome and included in the conversation at church events, how organized, efficient, and tech savvy she was, her perseverance, love of independent living, and most of all the special things she did for them including theme birthday parties with homemade cakes, games, decorations, and face painting.

Sue was preceded in death by her parents, and husband, and survived by daughter Shelley Byrd (Chris), son Gary Meyer, sister Bette Wright (Mert), nephew Cliff Wright (Stephanie), niece Alecia Wright, and four great-nephews.

A celebration of life event will take place later in Sequim, Washington.
