Sue Mae Nordin

Sue Mae (Powe) Nordin, 84, Mt. Vernon, passed away at 3:47 p.m. Wednesday, March 19, 2008, at St. Mary's Good Samaritan Hospital in Mt. Vernon.She was born in Buckatunna, Miss., on Friday, Dec. 14, 1923, a daughter of Thomas and Hattie (Sikes) Powe. She married Rudolph Edward Nordin on June 17, 1944, and he preceded her in death on April 23, 1985. Sue was a clerk at the P.N. Hirsch Department Store.Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Saturday at Faith Lutheran Church in Mt. Vernon with Pastor Josepha Lecke officiating. Interment will follow at Mt. Vernon Memorial Gardens.Evening visitation will be held 5 to 8 p.m. tonight at Hughey Funeral Home in Mt. Vernon.Saturday visitation will be from 1 to 2 p.m. Saturday at the church.Sue is survived by two sons, David L. Nordin and wife Melody of Mt. Vernon and Michael R. Nordin and wife Jill of Mt. Vernon; seven grandchildren, Tami Nordin of Mt. Vernon, Steve Nordin of Mt. Vernon, Kim Cash and husband D.R. of Bluford, Jeff Nordin of Beloit, Wisc., Matt Nordin of Anchorage, Alaska, Ali Nordin of Mt. Vernon and Josh Nordin of Springfield, Ill.; a brother, Huey Powe of Buckatunna, Miss.; a sister, Maud Sauder of Waynesboro, Miss.; sister-in-law, Evelyn Nordin and husband Roy; four great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.Her parents, her husband, and one son, John Nordin preceded her in death.Sue was a member of Crossroads Hospital Auxiliary, was a charter member of Faith Lutheran Church, a previous member of Ladies’ Aid of the church. She was a devout Christian, a devoted mother and grandmother. Her special enjoyment and most memorable times was spending time with her church family, her children and grandchildren and socializing with her many friends in the area.For those who wish, memorials may be given to the Faith Lutheran Church and will be accepted at the funeral home or may be mailed to Hughey Funeral Home, P.O.
