With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of our beloved Sue Ann "Susie" Robards, who left us on January 2, 2025, in her hometown of
Louisville, Kentucky. Born on August 21, 1941, Susie's life was a radiant testament to love, family and faith.
Susie retired from Weyerhaeuser after more than 30 years. She continued to work part-time with family and friends at Bargain Supply and then at Greenwood Bingo Hall's snack bar. Her steady Catholic faith guided her through life, and she served as a member of Good Shepherd Parish (previously Our Lady's Church in Portland, Kentucky).
She is survived by her loving husband, William "Billy" Robards; her daughter Sherri Matthews; her son William "Bill" Robards and his wife Dana; and her beloved sister Mary Lee Daub. Known as Baga to her 6 grandchildren, Susie's heart overflowed with love for each of them: Amanda Keeter, Brandon Keeter, Tyler Murphy, Chase Murphy (Micayla), Cole Robards, and Claire Robards. Her 4 great-grandchildren affectionately called her Gaga, and she cherished each of them just as much: Alec, Emma, Bristol Keeter, and Lachlan Curtis were the light of her life. In addition, Susie's unlimited affection embraced her numerous nieces, nephews and friends.
Preceded in death by her parents, James and Mary (Carter) Curley, and her five brothers and eight sisters, Susie remained ever proud of being a "Curley Girl." She embodied the legacy of love and resilience that defined her family.
Susie's joy was found in life's simple and beautiful moments-playing bingo, embarking on her "Krogering" adventures, delighting in cooking for her family, getting lost in romance novels, cheering for the Kentucky Wildcats, and enjoying TV game shows. Her remarkable ability to make everyone feel like family and her selfless generosity were hallmarks of her life.
During her time with us on earth, she participated in the STAR Clinical Trial in order to help researchers find new medicines for possible use in the prevention and treatment of breast cancer. Her spirit of giving extended beyond her time on this earth; Susie donated her body to the University of Louisville Medical School to aid medical professionals in their studies.
A memorial gathering to celebrate Susie's beautiful life will be held on February 22, 2025, at Good Shepherd Church (3511 Rudd Avenue,
Louisville, KY 40211) at 10:00 AM. Following the service, family and friends will gather at Lehman Hall next door to share memories and love.
Sue Ann Robards leaves behind a lasting legacy of kindness, compassion, and love that will forever inspire all who were blessed to know her. May her memory be a source of comfort and strength to her family and friends.
Expressions of sympathy will be accepted by the church the morning of the service. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation in Susie's name to Sleep In Heavenly Peace, KY-Louisville W (
