Sue Ellen Valk

Sue Ellen Valk, age 76, of Star Tannery, VA, passed away on November 16, 2023. She was born on March 23, 1947, in Milwaukee, WI, to her parents, Irene and Eugene Hueckman. Sue was preceded in death by her parents, sister Sherry Coulston, a baby sister, and a baby grandson.

Sue will be lovingly remembered by her children, Dawn Meiners Green (Mike) of Winchester, VA, Michael Meiners (Ashley) of Burke, VA, and David Meiners (Anna) of Sachse, TX. She was a cherished grandmother to her grandchildren, Allyson, Joseph, Lizzie, Amber, and Jacob and bonus grandchildren Christina and Cheyenne. Sue is also survived by her sisters, Lori Gawlik and Cindy Baldwin.

Sue had a successful career as a Nurse Anesthetist (CRNA) and retired from Winchester Medical Center in 2012. She studied nursing at Milwaukee Hospital and Anesthesia at Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN. Additionally, Sue pursued her passion for Anthropology and studied at The American University in Cairo, AUC.

Outside of her professional life, Sue had a wide variety of interests and hobbies. She had a deep love for the outdoors and spent much of her time beautifying her 13 acres of land. Sue was also an avid reader and enjoyed writing poetry. She maintained a blog titled "WhollyHolyHuman" where she shared her thoughts and experiences. Sue's adventurous spirit led her to travel to many places, including living in Cairo, Egypt, for 3 years. She also volunteered for the Peace Corps and spent time in American Samoa.

A private celebration of life will be held at a later date to honor Sue's memory. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society in honor of Sue's compassionate and giving nature.

Sue will be greatly missed by her family, friends, and all those whose lives she touched with her generous, kind, loving, and independent spirit. Her legacy as a devoted mother, grandmother, and successful healthcare professional will forever be cherished.
