Funeral services for Susan J. Ahern, 81, of Silvis, IL, will be 10 am Wednesday at Christ the King Catholic Church, Moline, IL. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, East Moline. Visitation will be 3-7 pm Tuesday at the Van Hoe Funeral Home, where a rosary will be recited at 2 pm. Mrs. Ahern passed away peacefully, surrounded by her family Tuesday, August 30, 2022, at Aspen Care Center, Silvis.
Susan was born September 21, 1940, in Iowa City, IA, the daughter of Theodore and Guila (Billick) Jansen. She married John T. Ahern June 13, 1964, at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Rock Island, IL. He passed away August 8, 2016.
Susan was raised in West Liberty, Iowa, on a family farm. Susan was a proud graduate of West Liberty High School class of 1959 and took great pride in helping organize and participate in many reunions with her classmates over the years. Susan graduated from St. Anthony's Nurses College in 1962 and served as a Registered Nurse for over 30 years at Franciscan, Lutheran and Illini Hospital in the Illinois Quad Cities. Susan's professionalism, bed side manner and compassionate patient care was a hallmark of her career, as well as many of the nurses that St. Anthony's graduated into the profession.
Survivors include her children, Catherine (Bob) Clementi, Channahon, IL; Sean (Julie) Ahern, Clare, IL; Dennis (Lisa) Ahern, Waterloo, IA; Regina (Brian) Knobloch, Moline; Kevin (Amy) Ahern, Hampton, IL; Brian Ahern, Telluride, CO; Seamus (Amanda) Ahern, Bettendorf, IA; Guila (Adam) Bickford, Denver, CO; 28 grandchildren; 7 great-grandchildren; siblings, James Jansen, Iowa City, IA, and Janelle (Roy) Nehas, Muscatine, IA; brother-in-law, Dr. James Ahern, Malvern, IA; sister-in-law, Judy McDonald, Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; children Mary Colleen, Terrence, Michael,and Timothy (USMC); siblings, Ruth Ann Jansen and Janet Simmering.
Memorials may be made to Alleman High School or Black Hawk College School of Nursing.

Your mom was one wonderful woman.My mother Johnny Armstrong loved her dearly.I myself thought she was one of the strongest woman I ever new.She was such a great witness to all people with her faith.

Sue was so warm and welcoming to my family over the years, especially at St. Patrick's Day gatherings. I'll remember her decked out in green, always with a smile on her face. She left quite a legacy behind.

To the family of Sue, we give our love! We used ti be neighbors and lived in the gold duplex on the corner! You kids used to play with our kids all the time! Your mother sure loved her kids and was a very nice person! I hope she didn´t suffer and rests in peace!!

Sorry to hear of your Mothers passing Brian, im sure you have sweet memories of her. I only met her a couple of times but she had a beautiful spirit about her and love each and every one of you lids and your friends.
