Susan Currier Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers from Mar. 2 to Mar. 4, 2023.
Vero Beach - Susan Kathryn Toth Currier was born on the 4th of July, 1946 in Detroit, Michigan to Michael and Florence (Higgins) Toth, on her dad's 38th birthday. She died peacefully in the early moments of February 28th, 2023 holding her youngest daughter's hand after a long fought battle with kidney disease.

Sue was the youngest of the four inimitable Toth sisters. She graduated from Immaculata High School in 1964 where she was editor of the school yearbook and president of Sigma Tau Epsilon. After almost becoming a nun, she went on to get her bachelor's degree at the University of Detroit-Mercy, where she was President of her sorority, Theta Phi Alpha. She then earned her master's degree at Wayne State University, and was just a handful of credits shy of a PhD. She taught junior high and high school in metro Detroit and remembered her students with great fondness decades later.

Susie Q was a creative soul at heart. She enjoyed theatre, art, movies, music, books, crossword puzzles, dancing, antiquing, party planning and decorating. She was witty, glamorous, self-confident, and relentless in her pursuit of what she wanted. Her favorite book was Gone with the Wind and her favorite movie was Out of Africa. She loved Motown, spaghetti, flowers, her old green Karmann Ghia, and the color pink.

Though Sue was not successful in lifelong marriage (despite trying twice), she did become a mother as she'd always desired with the birth of daughters Jean (her heart) in 1976, Kathryn (her spirit) in 1980, and son Patrick (her soul) in 1984. She was thrilled to become a grandmother to Lily in 2009 and Charlie in 2013.

In 2008, she moved to Vero Beach, FL and immersed herself in her watercolor painting and numerous activities including: garden, art, bridge, book and Mah Jong clubs. She danced weekly at the community center where she met many wonderful friends, including her sweet Don Palmer. She continued some of the charity work in Vero that had long been a part of her adult life in Michigan; Festival of Trees, the Salvation Army & Vista Maria.

Susan was preceded in death by her beloved parents, aunts & uncles, cherished sisters Anne Sommerfeld and Michelle "Mickey" Cooney, and tragically by her dearest son Patrick "PJ" Currier.

She is survived by her daughters Kathryn "Casey" Currier (Eli) of Brooklyn, NY, Jean Williams (Charlie) of Silverthorne, CO, grandchildren Lily Ann and Charlie Williams, sister Marge Fredericks, two steadfast brothers in law, many nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews, and the best and most loyal friends a woman could ever hope to be blessed by.

In accordance with her wishes, Sue's ashes will be spread at one of her favorite places on earth, Walloon Lake, and interred at the columbarium at St Hugo of the Hills Church in Bloomfield Hills, MI so that one day the Toth sisters may be reunited again. A memorial service in Michigan will be scheduled for a later date.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you donate to the American Kidney Fund or the National Foundation for Transplants and consider registering as an organ donor if you have not already.

I will miss you always, mom. Rest now. And tell everyone on the other side how much I love and miss them too, and give a giant hug to PJ for me.

Jean and Casey I am so sorry for your loss. I have so many happy memories of Aunt Susan. I am so glad that were able to see her in Colorado over the holidays a few years back and that Peyton was able to meet her.

Sending love.

I only knew you for a short time, but I was blessed for the time I had with you.
