Susan Fisher Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers from Dec. 27 to Dec. 28, 2022.
Susan M. Fisher, 73, of Philadelphia, PA passed away on December 25, 2022 at home surrounded by her family, after a seven month battle with pancreatic cancer. During this fight, she was strong, brave and tenacious.

Susan is survived by her husband, Frank; three children, Jennifer Matthews (Timothy), Mary Kate, and Brian (Diane); five grandchildren, Emma, CJ, Colin, Gavin, and Charlotte; two brothers, Thomas and John; and loving in-laws Dennis and Mary Conlen and Charles Fisher. She was predeceased by her parents, Gordon and Mary Gregory.

Nana, as she was known by her adoring family, was a stay-at-home mother while her children were young. She then taught first grade at St. Cecilia School in Fox Chase, where she touched many students' lives. While there, she sang in the church choir for many years. She later worked at the Wharton School, University of Pennsylvania, where she was much loved by her colleagues.

After moving to Center City with her husband, she became a member of St. Patrick's Church where she served as a Eucharistic Minister. Later, joining Old St. Joseph Church in Society Hill, she participated actively in the parish, first as Vice-Chair of the Parish Council then as Chair of the Council.

In retirement, Susan became an accomplished watercolorist, creating lovely beach and ocean scenes, as well as her unique creation of "Nana Birds" as they came to be called. They are much beloved by all who see them.

During her lifetime, Susan inspired all who came to know her through her integrity, creative abilities, love of children, strength of character, and strong religious beliefs. Her legacy will be long-lasting for all who have been privileged to know her.

Relatives and friends are invited to Susan's Life Celebration on Friday December 30, 2022 at St. Philip Neri Church located at 437 Ridge Pike, Lafayette Hill, PA 19444. Visitation is from 10 AM to 11 AM followed by Mass starting at 11 AM. Interment will be held at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery in Cheltenham following Mass.

In lieu of flowers, please make donations to PA Hospital Hospice Fund at https://giving.apps.upenn.edu/fund?program=MC&fund=402969 in memory of Susan Fisher.

I was so very sad to hear this news. I worked with Susan for about ten years at Wharton and she was always such a kind and helpful colleague. More than that, we often saw her at church at Old St Joseph's where she was really wonderful with the children. She was such a wonderful presence. We will really miss her.
