Susan Greene Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Aug. 7, 2024.
Susan (Houle) Greene, known affectionately as Sue, Susie or Miss Sue, passed away unexpectedly with her long-time partner, John P. Collie on July 25, 2024, in Ocala, Florida. Born on May 17, 1953, in Barre, Vermont, to the late Jean-Marie (John) and Mary (Betty) Houle, Sue's vibrant spirit and warm heart touched all who knew her throughout her 71 years of life.

Sue was a devoted mother to her adoring daughter, Sarah Slothower, and a loving mother-in-law to Donny Slothower III. Her role as a grandmother to Donny Slothower IV and Devin Slothower was one she embraced with every ounce of her generous spirit, infusing their lives with the same caring guidance she had provided to her daughter.

Sue's sisters, Sherry Parks, Debbie Rector, and Gail Wells will forever hold dear the memories of their sister's bright and dynamic personality. Her nephews Jon, Andy, Robert, and Sam will remember their Aunt Sue for her unwavering support and the bubbly enthusiasm she brought to family gatherings

Sue was a beacon of generosity and love, her life marked by her dedication to the well-being of children. She experienced a fulfilling career that spanned decades, beginning as a daycare teacher and eventually rising to the role of a daycare director. She was also a compassionate social worker with Headstart and concluded her professional journey as a preschool teacher, leaving an indelible mark on countless young lives.

A charitable and supportive individual, Sue found joy in the simple pleasures of life. She had a passion for gardening, particularly planting and nurturing her flowers, and enjoyed the tranquility brought by her love of word search puzzles. Sue also cherished regular phone calls with her daughter Sarah and would always end the call with "I love you Baby Girl. Make sure you tell the boys Grammie loves them very much."

Described by those who loved her as generous, loving, and spirited, Sue's presence was a gift to the world. Her laughter was infectious, her advice invaluable, and her compassion boundless. She was a friend to many, always ready with a kind word or a helping hand, and her absence will be deeply felt by all who were fortunate enough to cross her path.

Every morning from the time I was a little kid until I graduated high school, I would stand at the bathroom door in the morning as mom did her hair and makeup. We would chit chat about all kinds of things during that time. She never minded that she couldn't fix her hair without me hanging around. I think we both valued that little morning ritual more than we realized at the time. I love you Mom.

Sue, remember sitting around the table with Mom, drinking coffee, smoking, talking, laughing and crying. Best of times!

Sue was a bright light in my life as well as my brother, Scotts life as his neighbor. They always came to Super Bowl Parties at Scotts. Sue lived not far from me in Ocala, FL. She was always so excited to see us. The last time I saw her she said, "Where did you go?" referring to weight loss. She always knew how to make a person smile. Will miss you..... Always with love, Sarah
