Our history with the Hurwitts goes back about 30 years. Susie and David hired us to be the architects for their home in South Carolina. That was just the beautiful beginning. Susie had GREAT style and flair, knew just how to do things right, and was our great advocate and cheerleader for our fledgling firm. It was such a pleasure to work alongside her and the chemistry always provided an expanded vision of what was possible.

Eventually (which happened relatively soon!) we became fast friends, occasionally met for lunch in New York (long before we moved there), went to see them several times in CT (later locations). Susie and David both took an interest in our young daughter, Sullivan, about the same age as Ellie. When we were visiting them one summer on the sound, Sullivan became quite muddy and I believe laundry service was provided that day along with lunch!

Probably the most memorable time for our family with all of the Hurwitts was Thanksgiving several years ago at the CT condo in which we were the only non-family members. Susie and David both had a way of making you feel so special. We are fortunate indeed to have had them in our lives. What a blessing.

I had the opportunity to take care of Susu for some days, I had just relocated to CT, clueless. She was a beautiful and wonderful woman; She took care of me like I was family and tried to also get me to be friends with Chase. She made sure I was felt at home and well fed all through. After I left, she kept in touch with me. I played her Gim Rummy card games with her, she made me dance for her because she loved my dancing and Nigerian Music. She gifted me a card while before leaving and I´m gonna hold that card so dear to my heart.
I feel so sad knowing she´s gone to be with the Lord and I know she´s gonna keep looking out for everyone.
I pray God gives her the family she left behind the grace to bear this loss. I am devastated. I wish I saw her one more time, my God!

Susie and David were the type of people that made you feel instantly included and valued. Our family moved to Connecticut in 2003. Upon first meeting them at church they made it clear they were our new friends for life. Taking us to lunch, inviting us to dinners in their home and being the type of new friends that you need when you are new in town. As the years went by there was no diminution in their warmth and sincere friendship and sense of fun. They served as role models for a power couple with grit, a sense of adventure and overflowing love.

What a delightful friend and role model! Susie always had a twinkle in her eyes, and we laughed a lot! We will always cherish our memories with Susie and David in Atlanta, Darien and Charleston!
Sending loads of love to Doug, Laura, Dave and Sarah.

So many happy and fun memories of Susie (and David), from being a young mother's helper with the Hurwitt toddlers, to Susie and I following Paul Newman around the streets of Westport! She was/is such a class act... Giving, kind, fun, thoughtful, spiritual and creative. She'll be greatly missed.

I have so many warm memories of your family and of course of Susie. Her sense of fun, love of her children and of life, and passion for all that is beautiful was infectious. My favorite memory may be of the two of us watching Sarah and my daughter - both age 5 or 6 - sitting on the stone wall at the dam, chatting like two grown-ups and seeming more mature than we two! I send love to you all.

Loved knowing and working with Susie. She had such a beautiful eye for turning properties into beautiful space to live. It was a pleasure and a treat to work with her on several properties in Charleston, SC. Sending my most heartfelt condolences to her family

Dear Doug, Laura, Dave & Sarah -
It was with great sadness that i received this note from you all. My relationship with your mom was really through David. Your dad was my mentor in Renaissance and I will always think so fondly of him for all the guidance he provided. Over the years, I got to know Susie from various retreats she might attend as well as at one point my wife and i asked her for an opinion on a remodeling project at home. She had SIGNIFICANT input in that we changed plans based on her comments and I often think of her in how she impacted the project to this day. She had an amazing eye for detail/excellence as I'm sure you know. She will be missed.....xoxo

Susie was a bright light! We are so grateful to have had her in our lives as a Sunday school teacher, friend, and style icon! We love her so dearly. The ripple effects of both Susie's impact and her amazing husband David's impact, will last for a long time - especially in the legacy they leave behind of a loving and creative family.
